Job summary

Endress+Hauser Group in Manchester is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Projects team, supporting the full acquisition cycle from invite-to-bid to order placement. You will review customer specifications, develop technically and commercially compliant proposals, and manage stakeholders to maximise project win rate.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, extensive experience in industrial projects, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary qualification in Engineering or Technology (instrumentation / process control / electrical / mechanical / chemical / industrial).
  • 10+ years in industrial or process project work; 2–3 years PM experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and represent Endress+Hauser at customer meetings and workshops.
  • Strong understanding of customer specs, technical proposals, project docs and instrumentation solutions.
  • Confident communicator with customers, colleagues, suppliers at various levels.
  • Good problem‑solving, decision‑making and ownership mindset; able to work independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote, Copilot).
  • Fluent English, written and verbal.
  • ISO 9001 knowledge advantageous.
  • PMP/APM/PRINCE2 desirable.
  • Experience using Salesforce, SAP, Planview or DocBoss advantageous.
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance and UK residence minimum 10 years.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer RFQs, tenders and project specs to craft proposals and bids.
  • Manage acquisition of multiple projects, supporting on‑time delivery, quality and profitability.
  • Act as key customer contact during acquisition, managing expectations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Execution, Solutions, Documentation, Service, Logistics and partners on offers.
  • Coordinate supplier RFQs and ensure technical/commercial compliance.
  • Prepare clear customer submissions with assumptions, deviations, schedules and docs.
  • Support forecasting, opportunity management and project pipeline updates.
  • Identify and manage technical, commercial and contractual risks with stakeholders.
  • Support handover to Execution PM and provide input during execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge development.

Project Engineer – Instrumentation / Process Automation

Role + Responsibilities for a Project Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to join the Projects team. This role sits within the Acquisition Team and supports the full project acquisition process, from invite-to-bid and customer requirement review through to proposal development, customer acceptance and order placement. The individual will review customer specifications, develop technically and commercially compliant proposals, clarify requirements, manage stakeholders, assess risk, and work closely with internal teams and external partners to maximise project win rate and deliver high-quality customer outcomes.

Main responsibilities for a Project Engineer
  • Review customer RFQs, tenders and project specifications, translating requirements into clear engineered proposals and bids.
  • Manage the acquisition of multiple projects of varying complexity, supporting on‑time delivery, quality, compliance and profitability.
  • Act as a key customer contact during the acquisition phase, building strong relationships and ensuring expectations are understood and managed.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales, Execution, Solutions, Documentation, Service, Technical Support, Logistics, Production Centres and third‑party suppliers to develop competitive project offers.
  • Coordinate supplier RFQs, evaluate third‑party scope and ensure technical and commercial compliance within customer proposals.
  • Prepare clear customer submissions, including assumptions, deviations, DISCLAIMERS, schedules, documentation and supporting technical information.
  • Support forecasting, opportunity management and project pipeline updates using Salesforce and other business tools.
  • Identify and manage technical, commercial and contractual risks, working with internal stakeholders to protect customer and business outcomes.
  • Support handover to the Execution Project Manager and provide technical input during the project execution phase where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality processes and ongoing development of product and application knowledge.
Qualification + Profile for a Project Engineer
  • Post‑secondary qualification in Engineering or Technology, ideally in instrumentation, process control, electrical, mechanical, chemical or industrial engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial or process project work, with 2-3 years' project management experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and represent Endress+Hauser at customer meetings, including technical and commercial clarification workshops, tender reviews, site visits and project negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of customer specifications, technical proposals, project documentation and engineered instrumentation solutions.
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders at different levels.
  • Good problem‑solving, decision‑making and ownership mindset, with the ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote and Copilot.
  • Fluent English language skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management standards would be advantageous.
  • PMP, APM or PRINCE2 certification would be desirable.
  • Experience using Salesforce, SAP, Planview or DocBoss would be advantageous.
  • All applicants must, as a minimum, be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance. This role also requires applicants to have a minimum of 10 years' continuous residency in the UK to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
