Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is assisting a well-established engineering business in Peterborough to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer (Metal Fabrication). You will manage projects from initial enquiry through to installation on bespoke steel fabrications, coordinating with customers across the UK.

The role is full-time and permanent, with a salary of £40,000–£50,000 DOE and a Monday–Friday 09:00–17:00 pattern.

Qualifications

• Experience in Mechanical Design Engineering with sheet metal and fabrication design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, Revit, Tekla).
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK.
• Excellent communication and project-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce specifications and detailed drawings for bespoke metal fabrications.
• Design solutions to meet customer requirements and quote costs.
• Manage multiple projects from enquiry to installation.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and site teams; occasional overnight stays.

Location: Peterborough (applications welcome from surrounding areas within approximately a one-hour radius)

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 DOE

Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00

The Company

Our client is a well-established engineering business specialising in the delivery of bespoke design and installation projects across a diverse range of industries. Working with steel fabrications and composite panelling materials, they provide tailored engineering solutions from concept through to completion.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to their team of six, offering the opportunity to manage varied and technically challenging projects while working closely with customers across the UK.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for managing projects throughout their full lifecycle, from the initial customer enquiry through to final installation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Producing specifications and detailed engineering drawings
• Designing bespoke engineering solutions to meet customer requirements
• Costing and quoting projects
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Supporting projects through manufacture, delivery and installation
• Liaising directly with customers and stakeholders throughout project delivery
• Attending client sites across the UK when required, including occasional overnight stays
• Ensuring projects are delivered on time and to specification

About You

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• Previous experience within Mechanical Design Engineering
• Strong experience with Sheet Metal and Fabrication design
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software
• Experience using one or more of the following:
  • Autodesk Inventor
  • Autodesk products
  • Tekla
  • Revit
• A full UK driving licence
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills
• The ability to manage multiple projects within a fast-paced environment
• A proactive and resilient approach to problem-solving
