Job summary

Reed Engineering in Northamptonshire is seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical systems using SolidWorks. You will produce 3D models, GA drawings and BOMs, and work closely with manufacturing and project teams to deliver robust solutions.

The role focuses on sheet metal and fabrication, with opportunities to travel to sites for measurements, support installation, and drive cost reductions through design improvements.

Qualifications

• Advanced SolidWorks experience.
• Minimum 5 years in mechanical design, project engineering or similar.
• Mechanical design experience in sheet metal, fabrication or heavy machinery.
• Experience producing GA drawings and managing BOMs.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Produce GA drawings and system layouts.
• Design sheet metal and fabricated components and assemblies.
• Create and release Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Maintain BOM and product data within ERP/MRP systems.
• Support mechanical projects from concept through design, release, manufacture, testing and commissioning.
• Work closely with manufacturing and project teams.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding technical specifications.
• Attend customer sites to take measurements and develop equipment/layout designs where required.
• Review existing designs and identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction and standardisation.
• Support installation and commissioning activities when required.

Northamptonshire | £40,000 - £50,000 | Permanent | Office Based

Reed Engineering is recruiting for an experienced Project Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering manufacturer based in Northamptonshire.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical designs using SolidWorks
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings
• Produce General Arrangement drawings and system/plant layouts
• Design sheet metal and fabricated components and assemblies
• Create and release Bills of Materials / BOMs
• Maintain BOM and product information within an ERP/MRP system
• Support mechanical projects from concept through design, release, manufacture, testing and commissioning
• Work closely with manufacturing and project teams
• Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding technical specifications
• Attend customer sites to take measurements and develop equipment/layout designs where required
• Review existing designs and identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction and standardisation

Essential experience

• Advanced SolidWorks experience
• Minimum 5 years' experience within mechanical design, project engineering or a similar engineering role
• Mechanical design experience within sheet metal, fabrication and/or heavy machinery
• Experience producing General Arrangement / GA drawings
• Experience producing and managing Bills of Materials / BOMs
• Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings
• An understanding of design for manufacture
• Ability to manage engineering work from design through to production
