Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Project Engineer for high-density new build residential developments in the City of London. You will manage technical, structural, and MEP engineering aspects, ensuring design compliance and on-site issue resolution while coordinating sub-contractors.

The role focuses on quality control, statutory approvals, and safety, with responsibilities spanning RFI/TQ handling, site coordination, testing, handing over, and RAMS adherence.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as Project Engineer / Site Engineer on medium-to-large residential schemes.
• Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Services.
• Knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC/LABC standards, and site safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Technical & site coordination: review drawings, manage RFI and TQ processes, resolve design clashes.
• Build QA/QC: enforce quality inspections across groundworks, superstructure, envelope, and MEP fit-out.
• Package & sub-contractor management: coordinate sub-contractors, verify specs, manage submittals.
• Testing & handover: oversee testing, commissioning, snagging, and practical completion.
• Health, Safety & Environment: ensure compliance with CDM regulations and RAMS.

Job Specification: Project Engineer (New Build Residential)

Position Title: Project Engineer - New Build Residential

Department: Construction / Engineering

Reports To: Project Director / Senior Project Manager

Position Overview

The Project Engineer manages the technical, structural, and MEP engineering aspects of high-density/multi-unit new build residential developments. You will ensure design compliance, resolve on-site technical queries, oversee sub-contractor delivery, and ensure all build phases meet quality standards, statutory approvals, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical & Site Coordination: Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings; manage RFI (Request for Information) and Technical Query (TQ) processes; resolve design clashes before on-site installation.
• Build Quality & QA/QC: Enforce quality inspections across groundworks, superstructure, envelope, and MEP fit-out phases to achieve sign-off for statutory compliance (e.g., Building Regulations / NHBC / LABC standards).
• Package & Sub-Contractor Management: Coordinate engineering sub-contractors, manage technical submittals, verify specs for materials/plant procurement, and ensure works adhere to the build schedule.
• Testing & Handover: Oversee testing, commissioning, and snagging across apartment units and common areas for practical completion and smooth tenant/purchaser handover.
• Health, Safety & Environment: Ensure all works comply with site safety plans, CDM regulations, and RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).

Core Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years as a Project Engineer / Site Engineer on medium-to-large-scale new build residential schemes (housing or multi-storey apartments).
• Education: Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Services.
• Technical Skills: AutoCAD / Navisworks / BIM viewers; pro-active reading of construction drawings, structural detailing, and MEP layouts.
• Key Knowledge: Strong understanding of current Building Regulations, structural interfaces, drylining/acoustic details, and building envelope systems.
