Job summary

Blackwell Earthmoving Limited, part of Hargreaves Services Plc, seeks a Project Engineer to drive complex engineering projects from planning through completion. You will act as a technical authority, ensuring compliance with quality, safety and regulatory standards on site.

You will own project objectives, manage relationships with clients and subcontractors, and collaborate with commercial, planning and HSEQ teams to forecast and mitigate risks, while guiding the team toward high performance

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in earthworks or civil engineering.
• Strong technical knowledge and practical application in engineering principles.
• Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status with ICE.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership for achieving project objectives across safety, quality, programme and commercial performance.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders as primary contact.
• Coordinate with commercial, planning and HSEQ teams for integrated planning and risk management.
• Provide leadership to the project team and embed a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Monitor progress and report risks and opportunities to senior leadership and take corrective actions.

As Project Engineer you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of our complex engineering projects. Acting as a key technical authority, you will provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

You will be responsible for managing every stage of the project lifecycle, from initial planning and design through to execution and completion, ensuring that all activities are delivered effectively, on time, and to the highest standards.

What you’ll be doing

• Taking full ownership for achieving project objectives across safety, quality, programme, and commercial performance. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards at all times.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders, acting as the primary point of contact to resolve issues, negotiate solutions, and foster collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate closely with commercial, planning, and HSEQ teams, ensuring integrated project planning, accurate forecasting, and proactive risk management to deliver works on time and within budget.
• Provide leadership and direction to the project team, setting clear expectations, driving high performance, and embedding a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop team members to enhance capability and succession planning.
• Monitor and report on project progress, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership, producing accurate and timely reports, and implementing corrective actions where necessary to safeguard delivery targets.

What We’re Looking For

• Extensive experience in earthworks or civil engineering, with a strong track record of delivering complex projects to high standards of quality and safety.
• Solid academic foundation, complemented by advanced technical knowledge and practical application in engineering principles.
• In-depth expertise across the core disciplines of Civil Engineering, ensuring the ability to lead and make informed decisions on technical matters.
• Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), demonstrating a clear commitment to professional development and leadership within the industry.
