Job summary

Blackwell Earthmoving Limited, part of Hargreaves Services Plc, is hiring a Site Engineer to support major UK projects such as HS2 and Lower Thames Crossing. You will assist with GNSS surveys, QA, and documentation to ensure safety and standards. A year of earthworks experience, GCSE B in Maths/Physics, and ICE/IEng progression are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year’s experience in earthworks or civil engineering, with high-quality results.
• GCSE Maths and Physics grade B required; ICE membership eligibility toward IEng.

Responsibilities

• Conduct GNSS-based site surveys and set out earthworks using batter rails, travellers, and stakeouts.
• Review and validate 3D machine control models for automated earthmoving equipment.
• Interpret drawings, specs and works information to determine construction methods with Foreman.
• Prepare and maintain essential project documentation: Plans, RAMS, ITPs, and Checklists.
• Manage QA processes and ensure checks are completed before work begins.
• Perform spot soil quality checks, including plasticity and moisture content testing.
• Support near-term rolling-wave planning to maintain project efficiency.
• Identify and report contractual events to the Commercial Team.
• Accurately document verbal instructions with supporting sketches and details.

As a Site Engineer, you will support the delivery of engineering projects by assisting with technical tasks ensuring work is carried out safely and to the required standards.

You’ll help monitor progress, check compliance with quality and safety guidelines, and provide input during different stages of the project. Your role will involve working closely with the team to keep activities on track and contribute to successful project completion.

What you’ll be doing

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum of one year’s experience in earthworks or civil engineering, demonstrating a proven ability to deliver high-quality results.
• Strong academic background, including at least a grade B in GCSE Mathematics and Physics.
• Comprehensive understanding of the four core principles of Civil Engineering, ensuring technical competence across all key areas.
• Eligibility for membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and a genuine commitment to progressing towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
