Job summary

Mind in Bexley and East Kent is seeking a Project Engagement Officer to deliver community engagement across Veterans Project, Wellbeing Ambassador Project and Physical Health Checks Initiative. Mind in Bexley and East Kent is a local Mind mental health charity offering a wide range of support, advice and information across Bexley, Thanet and the Canterbury district.

The purpose of the charity is to promote the preservation and safeguarding of mental health and provide relief for people experiencing mental health difficulties. We promote wellbeing, reduce stigma, support recovery and advocate for improved services for everyone.

Job Summary

The Project Engagement Officer will deliver a number of community engagement and outreach activities across the Veterans Project, Wellbeing Ambassador Project and Physical Health Checks Initiative.

The postholder will build relationships with community groups, local businesses, professionals and stakeholders to increase awareness and participation in these projects. They will deliver presentations, attend community events, support promotional campaigns and contribute to the creation of engaging communications and social media content.

The postholder will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team and other colleagues across the organisation. The element of the role linked to the Veterans Project uses the title of Armed Forces Connector.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for planning, delivering, monitoring and evaluating multiple projects simultaneously, with particular focus on:

• Veterans Project
• Wellbeing Ambassador Project (including the Bexley Barbershop Project)
• Physical Health Checks Initiative

You will:

• Ensure projects are delivered to a high standard, within agreed budgets and timescales.
• Build relationships with community organisations, businesses, stakeholders and local partners.
• Represent Mind in Bexley and East Kent at community events, awareness campaigns and engagement activities.
• Deliver presentations and talks to professional groups and community audiences.
• Support the development of promotional materials, digital messaging and targeted social media campaigns.
• Facilitate the co-design of leaflets, toolkits and engagement resources.
• Monitor project activity and outcomes, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Work collaboratively with the Development and Fundraising Lead to maximise project impact and achieve successful outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to project reporting requirements.
• Provide information stands and engagement activities at public events when required.

• Maintain clear, accurate and up-to-date database records of relevant contacts across the London Borough of Bexley.
• Support the development and production of promotional and engagement materials.

• Work flexibly, including occasional evening and weekend working. Time off in lieu (TOIL) may be taken subject to agreement with your line manager.

Project RequirementsWellbeing Ambassador Project

Including, but not limited to:

• Build on the success of the Bexley Barbershop Project by recruiting and supporting barbers, hairdressers, tattooists and ambassadors from other agreed commercial settings.
• Support ambassadors to promote positive mental health conversations and signpost individuals to appropriate support services.
• Facilitate a monthly evening peer support session for ambassadors to share experiences, learning and best practice.
• Coordinate additional training and development opportunities for ambassadors where required.
• Promote engagement and awareness activities across the local community.

Armed Forces Connector Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

• Facilitate a weekly peer support session for veterans, reservists and adult family members to improve wellbeing and reduce social isolation.
• Encourage members of the armed forces community to complete health and lifestyle surveys to help identify needs and inform service development.
• Support the development of a hyper-local service leaver e-bulletin, providing information about local services, support and social opportunities.
• Encourage veterans to access Mind in Bexley and East Kent wellbeing activities, including walking, gardening and creative groups.
• Support new participants to integrate into activities and services.
• Develop and coordinate a programme of bi‑monthly social events to encourage engagement and connection within the armed forces community.
• Facilitate a monthly Saturday breakfast club to provide peer support and opportunities for social connection.
• Work with participants to ensure activities are shaped by the needs of the veteran community.
