Job description

We are seeking an experienced Development Project Manager to lead the development of utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Germany. The role is responsible for managing projects from origination through permitting, grid connection, technical development, stakeholder engagement, and financing support, driving projects to Ready-to-Build (RTB) status and handover for construction. The successful candidate will combine strong project management, commercial, regulatory, and stakeholder management skills with a solid understanding of the German renewable energy market.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Development Lead utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, and BESS projects through all development stages to RTB.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, milestones, and reporting.
• Coordinate external consultants, development partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure projects meet company investment criteria and strategic objectives.

Origination & Land Development

• Identify and evaluate new development and acquisition opportunities.
• Assess site suitability, grid access, environmental constraints, and technical feasibility.
• Negotiate and secure land leases, purchase agreements, easements, and access rights.
• Maintain relationships with landowners, municipalities, and local stakeholders.

Permitting & Grid Connection

• Coordinate permitting processes, environmental assessments, planning approvals, and grid applications.
• Manage relationships with municipalities, authorities, DSOs, TSOs, and external advisers.
• Support grid connection strategies and technical studies for Solar, Wind, BESS, and hybrid projects.

Stakeholder & Commercial Management

• Act as the primary interface with local authorities, landowners, communities, consultants, and development partners.
• Support project business cases, financing activities, investment approvals, and transaction processes.
• Contribute to project acquisitions, co-development opportunities, and commercial negotiations.

Risk & Compliance

• Identify and mitigate development risks related to permitting, land, grid, environmental, and regulatory matters.
• Ensure compliance with applicable German regulations, HSE, ESG, and governance requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Economics, Project Management, or a related field.
• 5-10+ years of renewable energy project development experience in Germany.
• Proven track record in utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, and/or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of German permitting frameworks, municipal planning processes, and grid connection procedures.
• Experience managing external consultants, stakeholders, and development partners.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and project management skills.
• Fluent German and English.

Preferred Experience

• Hybrid renewable projects (PV + BESS and/or Wind + BESS).
• TSO-level grid connections.
• Knowledge of EEG regulations, energy markets, ancillary services, and auction mechanisms.
• Experience supporting project financing, M&A, and due diligence processes.
• Familiarity with GIS/QGIS and project management software.
