Job summary

Hitachi Energy seeks a Project Construction & Commissioning Manager to lead the Construction & Commissioning scope across major energy infrastructure projects in the UK. You will drive from handover through to execution, ensuring safety, schedule and budget adherence, while coordinating with Project Directors, Site Managers and subcontractors for successful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience delivering Construction and/or Commissioning on major infrastructure/energy projects.
  • Experience with HV, HVDC, substations, offshore wind, transmission or power generation projects advantageous.
  • Strong stakeholder management with ability to influence across teams and clients.
  • Commercial awareness including budgets, forecasting, change management, and cost discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all Construction & Commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Organise and lead kick-off meetings for Construction & Commissioning teams.
  • Drive handover from Tendering and Engineering into Construction & Commissioning with defined scope, schedule, budget and risks.
  • Define responsibilities, resources and delivery strategies for project execution.
  • Review and implement constructability strategies during mobilisation and execution.
  • Collaborate with Project Directors, Site Managers and functional teams to drive performance.
  • Support site mobilisation and startup with robust execution plans.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, permits, certifications and HSE requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate site infrastructure needs.
  • Monitor progress, budgets, forecasts; implement recovery plans as needed.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Lead and support commercial discussions on change management and cost control.
  • Drive decision-making in complex environments.
  • Participate in project reviews and report status, risks and recovery plans.
  • Ensure activities align with company processes and project requirements.
  • Provide accurate information to leadership and senior management.

Job description

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Construction & Commissioning Manager (PCCM**) following an internal promotion within our team.

Working across major energy infrastructure projects, including offshore wind grid connections, HVDC systems, substations, power transmission and power generation projects, you will provide leadership across the Construction & Commissioning scope from project handover through to successful execution and close-out.

This is a highly visible role where you will work closely with Project Directors, Site Managers, clients and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule and within budget.

You’ll be supporting some of the UK’s most significant power infrastructure programmes, with projects spanning multiple years and offering long-term career development opportunities.

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, identifies challenges and opportunities before they arise, and can balance site‑level priorities with wider project and business objectives.

The successful candidate will be comfortable leading complex stakeholder discussions, driving decisions, influencing outcomes and delivering successful project results through a pragmatic and solutions‑focused approach.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Lead and coordinate all Construction & Commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Organise and lead kick‑off meetings for Construction & Commissioning project teams.

  • Drive the successful handover from Tendering and Engineering into Construction & Commissioning, ensuring clear ownership of scope, schedule, budget, risks and opportunities.

  • Define Construction & Commissioning responsibilities, resource requirements and delivery strategies to support successful project execution.

  • Lead the review, approval and implementation of constructability strategies during mobilisation and execution phases.

  • Work closely with Project Directors, Site Managers and functional teams to drive project performance and delivery.

  • Support site mobilisation and startup activities, ensuring robust execution plans are established and effectively implemented.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, permits, certifications, contractual obligations and HSE requirements.

  • Develop and coordinate temporary and permanent site infrastructure requirements.

  • Monitor construction progress, project performance, resource loading, budgets and forecasts, implementing recovery and mitigation plans where required.

  • Identify, assess and manage project risks and opportunities throughout execution.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and successful project outcomes.

  • Lead and support commercial discussions relating to change management, variations, claims, additional costs and cost control activities.

  • Challenge constructively and drive decision‑making in complex project environments.

  • Participate in project reviews and provide accurate reporting on project status, progress, risks and recovery plans.

  • Ensure all Construction & Commissioning activities are delivered in accordance with company processes, industry standards and project requirements.

  • Provide timely, accurate and reliable information to project leadership and senior management teams.

  • Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and the implementation of best practices across projects.

Your Background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience delivering Construction and/or Commissioning activities within major infrastructure, energy, utilities, industrial or engineering projects.

  • Experience within High Voltage (HV), HVDC, substations, offshore wind, transmission & distribution, or power generation projects would be highly advantageous.

  • Strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to influence and engage effectively across project teams, clients and contractors.

  • Commercial awareness, including exposure to project budgets, forecasting, change management, variations, claims or cost discussions.

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and deliver against project deadlines.

  • Strong communication, influencing and relationship‑building skills.

  • Ability to identify issues proactively, take ownership and implement practical solutions.

  • Comfortable operating in dynamic project environments and adapting to changing priorities.
