Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Glasgow is seeking a Project Manager to lead the Automation and Communication scope for HVDC projects. You will manage interfaces across disciplines and liaise with customers, suppliers and the project team to ensure delivery on time and within budget.

The role offers exposure to global projects, a dynamic engineering management culture, and opportunities to contribute to innovative transmission solutions while developing leadership and technical skills.

Job description

We are looking for a Project Manager to lead the Automation and Communication scope for HVDC projects based in Glasgow. This is a role with many interfaces and interesting work tasks, and you will get great opportunities for learning and development working on potential future projects across the globe. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells Direct Current transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect power systems.

You will join as an integral member of a diverse and high‑paced engineering management team at a time when the demand for our solutions is booming and we are expanding in order to help our clients reach their environmental targets.

How you’ll make an impact:
  • Ensuring that engineering is developed with complete information and/or that all multidisciplinary information has been included.

  • Leading development of new solutions for complex projects and challenges.

  • Driving completion of all engineering activities on the project.

  • Coordinating engineering discipline across several projects.

  • Providing technical support for testing, installation and commissioning activities.

  • Designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting the data and preparing complete project documents in area of responsibility.

  • Providing cost effective quality solutions and delivering within budget and contract. Ensuring adherence to safety standards and mitigation of potential risks.

  • Creating work plans and cost estimates. Reviewing and approving scope, budget and schedule for assignments.

  • Interacts directly with customers, officials, contractors and supply chain.

  • Managing large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager. coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower-level professionals, problems faced are difficult and often complex.

Background:
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree within the relevant technical area.

  • You have previous experience working with energy sector.

  • You are structured, driven and like to continuously improve processes and come with new ideas.

  • You should thrive in a position where you have the opportunity of creating networks, cherish human relations as well as working independently towards clear deadlines.

  • Experience in project management and bid management. You are comfortable meeting customers and partaking in technical negotiations to support your team if needed.
