Job summary

3sixty Resourcing Ltd is seeking a Project Automation Engineer for the Derby/Nottingham area to own end-to-end project delivery of automation and control systems across multiple industries.

This hands-on role requires strong PLC/SCADA experience, ability to programme PLCs, interpret electrical schematics, and ensure designs meet standards, budgets, and client needs; some travel to customer sites will be required.

Qualifications

• Strong background in industrial electrical or automation engineering.
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA and HMIs.
• Ability to PLC programme.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and process diagrams.
• Familiarity with industrial controls standards/regulations.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Understand client requirements and propose suitable automation solutions.
• Develop PLC and SCADA systems and hardware interfacing.
• Collaborate with CAD on panel layouts and heat management.
• Create process diagrams, flowcharts, and state diagrams to illustrate system functionality.
• Ensure hardware is certified and fit for purpose; designs meet time/budget constraints.
• Verify designs are achievable within project timelines.

Our client is a leading engineering solutions provider delivering bespoke automation and control systems across multiple industries.

Due to continued growth and new project wins across the UK, our client is now looking to expand their engineering division and seek an experienced Project Automation Engineer to take ownership of end-to-end project delivery.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong experience in control systems engineering (PLC/SCADA).

What's involved for the Project Automation Engineer …

• Understand client requirements and propose suitable solutions.
• Identify and apply relevant international, British, and client standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Develop PLC and SCADA systems, including sensor specification and interfacing.
• Collaborate with CAD engineers on panel layouts, considering heat dissipation, cable routing, segregation, and maintenance access.
• Create process diagrams, flowcharts, and state diagrams to illustrate system functionality.
• Ensure all hardware is fit for purpose and properly certified.
• Confirm designs are achievable within the available time and budget.

What you'll need…

• Strong background in industrial electrical or automation engineering.
• Proven experience with control systems including PLCs, SCADA, and HMIs.
• MUST be able to PLC programme
• Ability to design or interpret electrical schematics and process control diagrams.
• Familiarity with standards and regulations in industrial controls.
• Experience with network design and hardware selection IDEAL.
• Excellent problem‑solving, organisational, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to customer sites as required.
