Job description

Thomson Foundation is an internationally recognised organisation dedicated to strengthening media freedom and quality journalism across the globe.They are currently seeking a Project and Finance Officer to join their London-based team and contribute to our mission of promoting free, fair, and ethical journalism.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in project administration or financial roles, preferably within the media development sector
  • Proven experience in drafting and managing project budgets
  • Familiarity with financial processes including invoicing and payment tracking
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, DropBox, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus)
  • A Master’s degree in project management, journalism, communications, international relations or a related field is preferred
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt in a flexible and proactive way
Key Responsibilities
  • Support project lifecycle activities including drafting budgets, tracking expenses, updating project timelines, and monitoring KPIs
  • Provide financial support under the supervision of the Director of Finance: process payments, maintain registers, and assist with audits
  • Assist in proposal submissions, due diligence, and reporting for institutional, philanthropic, and media projects
  • Coordinate logistics for UK-based trainings and programmes, including travel and accommodation
  • Maintain electronic records and collaboration tools to support internal workflows
  • Contribute to internal documentation, minute-taking, and policy updates
  • Support event planning and execution for workshops and conferences
  • Collaborate closely with administrators and assist in recruiting and supervising administrative staff
