Job summary

Medlock Partners is seeking a Project Accountant to provide hands-on financial support across a portfolio of projects in the UK. You will work with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure costs, revenues, and balances are accurately recorded and reported.

The role covers labour utilisation, WIP, accruals and prepayments, with clear management reporting and opportunities to influence project financial performance.

Qualifications

• Proficient with Excel and financial/accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day financial support to Project Managers, resolving project-related issues.
• Support financial reporting and monitoring of new projects.
• Prepare labour utilisation reports and analyse costs and resource usage.
• Incorporate labour and cost information into management reporting.
• Post monthly inventory journals across UK and international operations.
• Lead financial review meetings with stakeholders.
• Investigate and resolve project billing and invoicing queries.
• Review cost postings for correct coding and allocation.
• Support project closure and ensure all financial activity is addressed.
• Prepare and post WIP journals and accruals/prepayments.
• Maintain project budgets, forecasts and estimates in reporting systems.
• Update financials for scope changes and variations.
• Monitor corporate card expenditure and allocate to projects.
• Process and allocate expenses to relevant projects.
• Produce ad-hoc financial analysis for decision making.

We are currently supporting a growing organisation with the appointment of a Project Accountant to provide financial support across a portfolio of projects. This is a hands-on role that will suit an up and coming finance professional who enjoys working closely with operational and project teams, ensuring project costs and revenues are accurately recorded, financial reporting is maintained, and projects are appropriately controlled from start to finish. You will work closely with Project Managers and operational stakeholders, providing financial insight, resolving queries and helping ensure projects remain financially accurate and well managed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day financial support to Project Managers, responding to queries and resolving project-related financial issues.
• Support the financial reporting and monitoring of newly launched projects.
• Prepare regular labour utilisation reports and analyse labour costs and resource usage.
• Incorporate relevant labour and project cost information into management reporting.
• Prepare and post monthly inventory-related journals across UK and international operations.
• Lead regular financial review meetings with Project Managers and operational stakeholders.
• Investigate and resolve project billing and invoicing queries.
• Review project cost postings to ensure expenditure is accurately coded and allocated.
• Review revenue postings and ensure income is correctly attributed to the relevant projects.
• Support the financial completion and closure of projects, ensuring all outstanding financial activity has been addressed.
• Prepare and post work-in-progress journals and associated adjustments.
• Prepare and post project-related accruals and prepayments.
• Maintain project budgets, forecasts and estimates within financial reporting systems.
• Update project financial information to reflect variations, changes in scope and additional work.
• Monitor corporate card expenditure, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and allocated to the appropriate projects.
• Process and allocate employee and business-related expenses against the relevant projects.
• Produce ad-hoc financial analysis, reporting and commentary to support operational and management decision-making.
• Identify discrepancies, investigate variances and work with stakeholders to ensure accurate financial information.

About You

We are looking for a commercially minded finance professional with strong attention to detail and the confidence to work directly with non-finance stakeholders.

You will ideally have experience of:

• Project accounting, management accounting or a similar finance role.
• Working with project costs, budgets, revenue and work-in-progress.
• Preparing and posting journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Analysing labour utilisation and project performance.
• Supporting project managers and operational teams with financial information.
• Investigating financial discrepancies and resolving queries.
• Working with large volumes of financial data and producing clear reporting.
• Using Excel and financial/accounting systems to analyse and maintain financial information.

The successful candidate will be organised, analytical and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with stakeholders across the business.
