Job summary

Lockheed Martin UK Strategic Systems is seeking a Project Accountant to join our defence programmes. The role involves budgeting, cost analyses, and reporting to support national security projects.

You will work in a hybrid pattern (4xFlex) with about two days per week onsite, contributing to earned value management, month-end tasks, and close collaboration with programme and financial teams.

Qualifications

• Recently qualified or pursuing a professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
• Experience as Project Accountant, Management Accountant or similar project-based role.
• Able to apply cost analysis and cost management principles.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with senior programme personnel.

Responsibilities

• Compile and review budgets using actual performance, previous figures and expense data to control funds.
• Coordinate cost analyses, allocate costs and prepare reports for the cost accounting system.
• Ensure costs are allocated according to established procedures.
• Support formal reporting to Line of Business for long- and short-term planning.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant to join Lockheed Martin UK Strategic Systems. Lockheed Martin are one of the world's largest defence companies and working here will give you the opportunity to work on interesting programmes that support national security.

This role benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern offering a 4 day working week Mon - Thu and hybrid working (typically 2 days a week onsite)

In this role you will gain experience and take responsibility for a number of areas including, but not limited to:

• Compilation and review of budgets using actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and provide for proper financial administration.
• Coordinating multiple financial cost analyses functions, including cost allocation, setting up cost control systems, collecting data, controlling costs and preparing reports that maintain the company's cost accounting system.
• Ensuring that costs are allocated according to established procedures
• Support of formal reporting to Line of Business for both long term and short term financial planning.
• Analysis of financial information and preparation of financial reports.
• Supporting project completion on schedule following established procedures, schedules, and work plans.
• Assisting in the preparation of the monthly/quarterly financial charts.
• Labour analysis and detailed breakdowns of booking levels, demand analysis and spend profiles to ensure staffing levels are in line with programme need and site-wide resource availability, tracking of other direct costs.
• Assisting the program team and financial management in monitoring and tracking program expenditures and earned value management (EVM) performance, highlight issues/concerns/trends to the program team.
• Interacting with a variety of program and financial management personnel and advising on conformance with company and program processes and procedures.
• Perform key month-end reporting tasks such as: cost transfer journals, supplier advances, accruals, new order recognition, cash reconciliation, revenue recognition, OSEC reporting
• Support and completion of invoicing and monthly cost certificates to facilitate billing to customer base.
• Risk and opportunity analysis against output.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

• Recently qualified or pursuing a professional accounting qualification - CIMA, ACCA, ACA (or equivalent) with industry experience.
• Experience as Project Accountant, Management Accountant or similar Project based Accounting role
• Able to apply cost analysis and cost management principles
• Good interpersonal and communication skills - liaison/interaction with programme personnel at a senior management level.
