Job summary

Infoplus Technologies UK Limited is seeking an experienced Progress OpenEdge DBA to support a critical application. The role covers database administration, performance tuning, backups, security, and on‑call production support across dev, test, and production environments.

You will troubleshoot complex incidents, optimize performance, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure system stability and DR readiness. Experience with OpenEdge and scripting is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong experience as a Progress OpenEdge DBA in production environments.
• Hands-on expertise in Progress database architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
• Proven experience handling database failures and high-priority production incidents.
• Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and DR processes.
• Experience with Linux and/or Windows environments.
• Familiarity with SQL for analysis and OpenEdge ABL is a plus.
• Experience in incident, change, and problem management.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Progress OpenEdge databases across dev, test, and prod environments.
• Monitor health, availability, capacity, and performance.
• Troubleshoot failures, outages, locking issues, crashes, and connectivity problems.
• Perform performance tuning: queries, indexes, memory, and resources.
• Manage backups, restores, DR, and replication.
• Analyze logs and metrics to identify root causes.
• Support upgrades, patches, migrations, and environment refreshes.
• Collaborate with app, infra, and dev teams to resolve production issues.
• Participate in incident management and preventive action planning.
• Automate routine DBA tasks and maintain runbooks.
• Ensure security, access controls, maintenance and compliance.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Progress OpenEdge DBA to support a business-critical application built on Progress/OpenEdge. The resource will be responsible for database administration, production support, failure resolution, performance improvement, backup and recovery, and overall database stability.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and support Progress OpenEdge databases across development, test, and production environments.

Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance.

Troubleshoot and resolve database failures, outages, locking issues, crashes, and connectivity problems.

Perform database performance tuning, including query, index, transaction, memory, and resource optimization.

Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data replication activities.

Analyze database logs, alerts, and system metrics to identify root causes.

Support Progress/OpenEdge upgrades, patching, migrations, and environment refreshes.

Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to resolve production issues.

Participate in incident management, root‑cause analysis, and preventive action planning.

Automate routine DBA activities using scripting and maintain operational runbooks.

Ensure database security, access controls, maintenance, and compliance requirements are followed.

Provide on‑call and production support as required.

Required Skills and Experience:

Strong experience as a Progress OpenEdge DBA in production environments.

Hands‑on expertise in Progress database architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.

Proven experience handling database failures and high‑priority production incidents.

Strong knowledge of Progress database performance tuning and optimization.

Experience with database locks, transactions, indexes, storage, memory, and resource utilization.

Expertise in backup, restore, disaster recovery, and replication processes.

Good understanding of Progress ABL and SQL for application and query analysis.

Experience working on Linux and/or Windows environments.

Knowledge of monitoring tools and scripting using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar.

Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience working in an incident, change, and problem management environment.

Preferred:

Experience supporting large‑scale or business‑critical Progress/OpenEdge applications.

Knowledge of OpenEdge versions, upgrades, and high‑availability solutions.

Experience with enterprise monitoring, ITIL processes, and 24x7 production support.
