Job summary

Intuition IT Solutions Ltd in the United Kingdom is hiring a skilled Progress OpenEdge DBA to manage critical databases across development, test and production environments. You will ensure reliability, performance and secure operation of the Progress OpenEdge stack, and contribute to upgrades, patching and migrations in a demanding production setting.

• Extensive experience as a Progress OpenEdge DBA in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of backup, restore, disaster recovery, and replication processes.
• Experience with Linux and/or Windows environments.
• Proficient in Progress ABL and SQL for analysis.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Progress OpenEdge databases across environments (development, test, production).
• Monitor database health, availability, capacity and performance.
• Troubleshoot database failures, outages, locking issues, crashes and connectivity problems.
• Perform database performance tuning including query, index, memory and resource optimization.
• Manage backups, restores, DR, and data replication activities.
• Analyze database logs, alerts and system metrics to identify root causes.
• Support Progress/OpenEdge upgrades, patching, migrations and environment refreshes.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and development teams to resolve production issues.
• Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis and preventive action planning.
• Automate routine DBA activities using scripting and maintain runbooks.
• Ensure database security, access controls, maintenance and compliance requirements.
• Provide on-call and production support as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and support Progress OpenEdge databases across development, test, and production environments.

• Perform database performance tuning, including query, index, transaction, memory, and resource optimization.
• Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data replication activities.

• Support Progress/OpenEdge upgrades, patching, migrations, and environment refreshes.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to resolve production issues.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong experience as a Progress OpenEdge DBA in production environments.
• Hands‑on expertise in Progress database architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
• Proven experience handling database failures and high‑priority production incidents.
• Strong knowledge of Progress database performance tuning and optimization.
• Experience with database locks, transactions, indexes, storage, memory, and resource utilization.
• Expertise in backup, restore, disaster recovery, and replication processes.
• Good understanding of Progress ABL and SQL for application and query analysis.
• Experience working on Linux and/or Windows environments.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools and Scripting using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience working in an incident, change, and problem management environment.

Preferred:

• Experience supporting large‑scale or business‑critical Progress/OpenEdge applications.
• Knowledge of OpenEdge versions, upgrades, and high‑availability solutions.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring, ITIL processes, and 24x7 production support.
