Job description

Do you have a passion for climate change and sustainable finance, combined with the programme management capability to coordinate work across a network of global financial institutions and national regulators to drive climate action? As Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the operational delivery and management of an innovative £1.2m programme aimed at developing early warning systems for accelerated climate change and tipping points, working at the intersection of climate science, finance, regulation and policy. Working closely with the research programme's Principal Investigator (PI), You will coordinate interdisciplinary teams and industry partners to produce insights and stress testing tools that help the insurance sector and wider society to prepare for emerging climate risks, regulatory changes, and geopolitical risks. This role involves managing delivery, shaping research outputs, and ensuring strong collaboration with global insurance and reinsurance firms as well as regulators, and the Met Office to drive real world impact. This research programme will address the lack of adequate early-warning systems for accelerated climate change and climate tipping-points, for the insurance sector and more broadly. It also aims to address an associated challenge for the insurance sector, given its criticality to the global economy, by helping the sector understand the stressors, and adaptation responses to those stressors, it is likely to face in the coming decades due to the combined effects of climate change, the transition to a net zero economy including regulatory challenges, and potential geopolitical threats. Through working in collaboration with the insurance and reinsurance industry, we will develop and test a novel early-warning system for accelerating climate change and tipping-points, with aim of informing policy and wider society that unmanageable levels of climate change, with different modalities of climate impacts, are approaching. The programme manager will play a critical role in the successful delivery of this work not only through their coordination of activities but in helping to develop and maintain existing high-profile networks within insurance, reinsurance, and relevant national and international regulators, and to act strategically to grow these networks, generate opportunities for further collaboration within the industry and outside of the sector e.g., banking or government. As well as this, the programme manager will look for appropriate academic collaborations and opportunities for additional funding whether from industry, foundations, or funding bodies such as UKRI. The position will be employed at Leeds University Business School. The Programme Manager will also be formally connected to the Priestley International Centre for Climate, and Nexus. Please note that this post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route but first-time applicants might need to qualify for salary concessions.
