Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, is seeking a Project Planner to shape and optimize schedules for the Bridge Programme. The role involves close collaboration with Integrated Project Managers and delivery teams to provide visibility of progress, risks and milestones.

You’ll develop robust plans, lead scheduling assurance, and advise on delivery viability. A fixed-term contract and flexible first options are noted, with base locations Reading, Perth or Glasgow.

Qualifications

  • Proven project planning experience within large-scale change, transformation or IT programmes.
  • Strong expertise in developing and managing integrated project schedules with complex dependencies and critical path analysis.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project and other planning tools.
  • PMO experience supporting successful project and programme delivery.
  • Ability to analyse schedule performance and advise on risks and delays.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and optimise integrated project schedules with milestones and dependencies across the Bridge Programme.
  • Provide planning support to Integrated Project Managers and delivery teams.
  • Lead planning assurance activities ensuring detail, quality and control.

Salary: £44,000 - £65,900 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

SSEN Distribution are recruiting a Project Planner to play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our Bridge programme.

Distribution’s Bridge Programme Management Office (PMO) provides governance and support across the Bridge Programme. This includes a Programme of more than £150m focusing on people, process, organisation, and technology transformation, targeting benefits and value realisation in excess of £100m

The PMO is responsible for establishing and ensuring robust and rigorous Bridge delivery processes (including governance, reporting, cost management, benefits management, risk management, strategic alignment, portfolio prioritisation and optimisation, project analysis, scenario planning, and management information development) for the safe and effective delivery of transformation.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of a complex, high-profile programme that is redefining how we serve our customers and building the digital capability needed for the future of SSE. Working closely with Integrated Project Managers, delivery teams, and senior stakeholders, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising integrated project schedules that provide clear visibility of progress, risks, dependencies, and delivery milestones across the programme.

You will
  • Develop, maintain and optimise integrated project schedules that provide clear visibility of progress, dependencies, risks and key delivery milestones across the Bridge Programme.
  • Provide planning support and expertise to Integrated Project Managers and delivery teams to support successful programme delivery.
  • Lead planning assurance activities, reviewing programme and project plans to ensure they contain the appropriate level of detail, quality and control.
  • Analyse schedules and change impacts, providing recommendations on delivery viability, mitigation actions and recovery plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning capability by developing standards, tools and best practice, while coaching and supporting project teams.
You have
  • Proven project planning experience within large-scale business change, transformation or IT programmes.
  • Strong expertise in developing and managing integrated project schedules, including complex dependencies and critical path analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Project and other project planning tools.
  • Experience working within a PMO environment and supporting successful project and programme delivery.
  • Ability to analyse schedule performance, identify risks and delays, and provide clear recommendations to support project decision-making.
