The University of Liverpool is seeking to appoint a Professor of Maritime Energy Engineering to play a leading role in developing its research and partnerships in maritime energy, net zero and resilient infrastructure.
Based in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, this is an opportunity to shape an ambitious, interdisciplinary research agenda and contribute to research‑led undergraduate and postgraduate education.
We welcome applications from internationally recognised researchers across maritime energy engineering and closely related disciplines whose expertise complements our strengths in fluid mechanics, coastal engineering, renewable energy, resilience and environmental engineering. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, offshore renewable energy, floating offshore wind, marine renewable energy and energy systems for maritime applications. Experimental, theoretical and computational approaches are all welcome.
You will have opportunities to collaborate across the Department, School and wider University, including with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Net Zero Maritime Energy Solutions.
You will bring an established record of excellent research and external funding, together with an ambitious and credible vision for future research. You will help develop research capability, interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships with industry and other stakeholders.
Experience of working in or with the maritime engineering industry would be an advantage but is not essential.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and ethnic minority candidates, who are under‑represented in academic posts in the School. Appointments will be made on merit only.
Interviews and presentations will take place on Tuesday 2nd February 2027.
We are committed to enhancing a workforce as diverse as our community and particularly encourage applicants who are of minoritised genders and ethnic backgrounds, living with a disability, and/or are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
