Job summary

Oxford Instruments Andor, Belfast, is seeking a Production Support Technician – Electronics to join our high-tech production team. You will troubleshoot complex hardware, optimise systems to spec, and maintain rigorous records in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a 3-year track record in electronics/opto-mechanical production, strong diagnostics with DMM/oscilloscope, and excellent attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND level or equivalent with 3 years relevant experience in a high-tech production environment OR 5 years relevant experience in a high-tech production environment.
  • Technically proficient with at least 3 years’ experience in a technical role working with electronic and/or opto‑mechanical products.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and other technical literature.
  • Good soldering skills.
  • Good manual dexterity for handling small components.
  • Good diagnostic skills with DMM and Oscilloscope.
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration.
  • High level of computer literacy in an MS Windows environment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and repair of complex hardware faults on both new and returned products.
  • Optimisation of assembled systems/subsystems to meet specifications.
  • Accurate completion of assembly, test, and repair records.
  • Adherence to production processes and quality control requirements.
  • Accountability for output and quality of production targets.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on NPI when needed.
  • Sign off NCPs for designated products.
  • Costing Non-Warranty repairs using templates.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Train new team members as required.
  • Suggest improvements to products and processes.
  • Coordinate with stores on material supply and stock control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshooting and repair of complex hardware faults on both new and returned products
  • Optimisation of assembled systems/subsystems to achieve desired specification
  • Accurate completion of assembly, test, and repair records
  • Strict adherence to production processes and quality control requirements
  • Accountability for own output, delivery, and quality of assigned production targets
  • When necessary, working with Engineering on New Product Introduction (NPI) to develop appropriate engineering work instructions, build first prototypes / production units and deliver smooth transition from NPI to production volume
  • Signing off NCPs within agreed parameters for designated products
  • Costing Non-Warranty repairs using a template
  • Work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Training of new members of team and operations staff when required
  • Continually seek out ways to improve the product and processes.
  • Co-ordinate with stores on material supply and stock control processes giving feedback when issues are spotted with BOMs/WOs etc.
  • Ensure all H&S procedures are followed, identify and report issues using ‘SHEILD’.
  • Identify opportunities to improve health and safety and support implementation.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping at all times.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by management.
The Production Support Technician Will Have

HNC/HND level or equivalent with 3 years relevant experience in a high-tech production environment OR 5 years relevant experience in a high-tech production environment

AND
  • Technically proficient with at least 3 years’ experience in a technical role working with electronic and/or opto-mechanical products.
  • Demonstrate capability in identifying faults, investigating issues and steering resolutions
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and other technical literature
  • Good soldering skills
  • Good manual dexterity required for handling/manipulation of small/delicate components
  • Good diagnostic skills including the effective use of DMM and Oscilloscope
  • Excellent attention to detail and good concentration levels
  • High level of Computer literacy in an MS Windows environment

This is a permanent position based at our Belfast headquarters working full time onsite. Additional temporary or permanent, part time or full-time positions across Operations may be filled from this recruitment exercise.
