Job description

Production Supervisor

Job Type: On Site

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Permanent

Location: Hayes, London

Salary: Up to £57,252.20

Sector: Aerospace

As a key people leader in the production directorate, the role reports directly to the Production Manager (PM). In the absence of the Production Manager, the Supervisor/s will have delegated functional and disciplinary authority over the operational program and all colleagues within the department. Strategic and financial decisions will at all-time remain with the Production Manager. Dependent on the set-up of the department, the Supervisor may have dedicated functional responsibilities, yet it will remain that the Supervisor has an overarching mandate to support all of the Production Manager Duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountability for the team/s Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality standards as laid down by the Quality department and company procedures.
  • To be aware of the sites COMAH responsibilities and to take appropriate actions in the event of an incident.
  • Challenge the team to continuously strive for higher standards and to exceed defined targets.
  • Challenge business decisions professionally and pragmatically to ensure understanding.
  • Once defined, interpret and ensure clarity of business decisions within your team.
  • Be authentic, use rational thinking and data where appropriate to support change.
  • Adapt communication style to influence understanding.
  • Empower teams understanding of the importance of environmental regulations and their individual and collective responsibilities.
  • Leadership style that empowers people to raise safety/ethics concerns, which always are immediately addressed, communicated, and dealt with transparently.
  • Embrace engagement equally with all our colleagues, both those supported by collective union agreements and those that are not.
  • Create a daily communication pathway that both encourages individual and collective team dialogue.
  • Talks as 'one company', embrace and disseminates local business information to enabling colleagues to understand their impact to the customer (internal & external).
  • Responsive to feedback about own performance & behaviours.
  • Maintain oversight of teams' performance and development review schedule.
  • Ensure supervisory oversight is maintained where appropriate.
  • Ensure opportunities are merited and based on excellent performance and behaviours.
  • Use only SMART performance metrics.
  • Ensure agreed metrics are consistently displayed, maintained and understood.
  • Evaluate and implement new methodologies to ensure technological advancements are exploited in the workplace.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required:

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) preferably in an engineering or aircraft maintenance discipline or Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or;
  • Demonstrable equivalent experience leading technical teams.
  • Evidence of people management experience within an operational, unionised environment.
  • Use of proven communication skills, engaging and influencing direct reports.
  • Proven experience in performance management.
  • Coached and identified development areas for self and teams.
  • Understanding of MRO operations and processes.
  • Understanding of aviation regulatory requirements (e.g. CAA/FAA/EASA).
  • Process improvement and change management knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of Health & safety Regulations.
  • PC literate; ability to input and manipulate data using multiple platforms (e.g. SAP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrates resilience under pressure, with a trustworthy and collaborative approach to leadership.
  • Skilled in building and inspiring high-performing teams, effectively communicating strategy - even in challenging environments.
  • Possesses strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive, solutions-focused mind-set.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and confident in decision-making, with the awareness to seek support when needed and a commitment to developing others.

Working Conditions:

  • May Require to work "Double Days" or "4 on 4 off" shifts.
  • Shifts may be early/late.

Compliance and Onboarding:

  • Candidate must have the right to live and work in the UK unrestricted.
  • Mandatory Training will be required.
