Job summary

Butternut Box is seeking a Skilled Operator to join our Doncaster kitchen. You will work on a rolling 41-hour week, with day and weekend shift rotations, supporting safe, accurate production and recording of process data.

The role emphasizes quality control, machine hygiene, and efficient ingredient preparation to maintain our Fresh Food for dogs. You’ll operate line equipment, read and follow recipes, and contribute to a clean, compliant production area while upholding our standards for safety

• Previous experience as a Senior Operator or Machine Operator in a fast-moving production environment

• Experience in handling raw protein (lamb, pork, turkey, chicken)

Responsibilities

• Operate production line equipment to set specifications
• Conduct quality checks to meet product specs
• Perform machine hygiene and changeovers
• Prepare ingredients for production and mix recipes
• Maintain accurate digital records (CCP/IMS) on tablets
• Assist with waste processing and order packing
• Adhere to safety procedures and PPE usage
• Support ongoing equipment and facility cleanliness

Job description

Hours: We are pleased to say, this is a full-time permanent contract, you will be working a rolling average of 41 hours per week working on a shift rotation of days and some weekend working.

Such as:

• 4 on/ 4 off = 2 day, 2 nights
• 5 on, 5 off = 3 days, 2 nights
• 5 on, 5 off = 2 days, 3 nights

The job:

• Work in a safe way, following all appropriate safety procedures and wearing protective equipment correctly at all times
• Conduct quality checks, ensuring that we meet product specifications
• Perform machine/equipment hygiene and changeovers
• Preparing ingredients for production and mixing our recipes
• Operation of production line equipment to the agreed operational settings
• Maintain accurate digital records, including CCP checks and IMS records, utilizing tablet devices and general computer literacy
• Other general tasks: waste processing, order packing, etc
• Work to relevant standards and Key Performance Indicators
• Occasional attendance and contribution at the short interval controls meetings, and regular attendance/contribution at online performance reviews
• General facility hygiene - floors, walls and conveyors, etc., and working in a manner that epitomises ‘clean as you go’

What we're looking for:

• Working level of speaking English
• Previous experience as a Senior Operator, or Machine Operator in a fast-moving production environment
• Ability to read English
• Numerate (able to understand and work with numbers)
• Comfortable working in a chilled environment
• Comfortable working in an environment that processes raw protein (lamb, pork, turkey, chicken)

The interview process:

• Initial call with your dedicated Talent Acquisition Partner, carried out remotely.
• Skills/Behaviours interview, usually carried out in person.

Important things to note:

• This role is 100% based in our kitchen in Blyth, Doncaster
• You might know this role as a Machine Operator, Machine Technician, Manufacturing Technician but in Butternut, we call this a Skilled Operator.
