Alexander Steele Recruitment are working with an established food manufacturing business in Hertfordshire seeking an experienced Production Shift Manager to join their team. This hands-on leadership role oversees night shift production, food safety and team performance.

You will manage production activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacture of food products, drive continuous improvement and maintain GMP/HACCP compliance while promoting a culture of quality.

Alexander Steele Recruitment are working with an established food manufacturing business based in Hertfordshire, who are seeking an experienced Production Shift Manager to join their team.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, overseeing night shift production, food safety and team performance. The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all production activities during the day shift to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective manufacture of food products. The role involves managing production teams, maintaining quality and food safety standards, meeting production targets, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all night shift production activities to achieve daily production schedules and output targets.
• Monitor production performance, identifying and resolving issues that impact efficiency, quality, or productivity.
• Ensure optimum utilisation of labour, machinery, materials, and resources.
• Communicate production priorities and shift objectives to team members.
• Minimise downtime and escalated equipment issues to the Engineering or Maintenance team as required.
• Lead the site's health and safety agenda, investigating and closing out accidents, near misses and RIDDOR reports to eliminate risk
• Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, GMP and product specifications, working closely with the QA team
• Monitor KPIs including OEE%, labour hours and delivery targets, driving efficiency through Total Lean Culture (TLC) tools
• Manage labour, raw material and production costs, producing daily variance reports and identifying cost‑saving opportunities
• Conduct performance reviews and development plans, supporting continuous improvement and career progression
