BigHand Limited in London is seeking a Data Scientist to design and ship AI-powered features for our legal software, turning real-world data into reliable models. You will work on production-ready code, collaborate with engineers and product teams, and own parts of the model lifecycle.

The role emphasizes practical delivery, rigorous evaluation, and clear communication of results to non-technical stakeholders, with opportunities to influence product strategy and grow with the team.

Qualifications

• STEM degree in a technical subject (physical sciences or mathematics preferred).
• Strong Python skills and data science ecosystem experience (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn).
• Experience with LLMs and agentic AI systems, including retrieval augmented generation and context engineering.
• Data wrangling and analysis experience; ability to productionise models.

Responsibilities

• Train, tune and evaluate models for production deployment.
• Build and improve LLM and agentic AI systems including harnesses and evaluation frameworks.
• Wrangle real-world legal data and turn it into reliable product data.
• Design evaluation methods to honestly assess model/agent performance.
• Explain statistical and ML concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to technical discussions and refine requirements.
• Deliver high-quality output within an Agile framework.
• Develop robust solutions using tools best suited for the task.
• Apply modern software development lifecycle practices (code review, testing, CD).
