Job summary

Tata Steel in Lisburn seeks a Line Operator (Nights) to join our production team. If you have manufacturing experience and are eager to learn, you’ll be part of a proactive, safety‑driven environment with real chances to progress.

Starting rate £13.26 during training, rising to £14.58 on the shift pattern. The initial 6‑month contract offers a path to permanent roles after proven performance, with alternate weeks and a start ASAP subject to medical checks.

Qualifications

• Experience in heavy industry or manufacturing environments.

• Driving licence and access to own transport due to shift times.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture steel products according to specifications and guidelines.
• Record, label, and store products in compliance with company rules.
• Operate overhead cranes once trained to move products around.
• Run heavy machinery such as slitting, decoiling and shearing equipment.
• Ensure high quality finishes and perform quality checks.
• Follow plant procedures and PPE instructions at all times.
• Maintain safe operation and basic maintenance of equipment.
• Work within COSHH regulations and UK Health & Safety laws.

We have an initially temporary position within Tata Steel's Lisburn works. The successful applicant will be of proactive character, who is eager to learn and considers themselves to be a team player, grounded and genuinely interested in the Steel production and manufacturing environment.

This position presents the chance to acquire industry recognised qualifications and progress to multiple Production Lines or become a Unit Trainer.

Line Operator (Nights)

Location: Tata Steel, Lissue Walk, Lisburn BT28 2SN

Rate

£13.26ph during training. £14.58ph on shift pattern.

Contract length

6 months initially with the view to extend or offer a permanent position

Shift Patterns

After training, alternating weeks. Week 1: Mon-Thu 06:00-13:00 and Fri 06:00-12:00. Week 2: Mon-Thu 14:00-22:00 and Fri 14:00-21:00

Start

ASAP but pending the successful completion of a medical assessment, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test

Responsibilities

• Manufacturing Steel product according to robust requirements at all times
• Recording, labelling and storing product against company guidelines at all times
• (once trained) Using Overhead Cranes to move product around and from the shop floor
• Operating heavy machinery including but not limited to; slitting machine, decoiling machine, shearing machine
• Ensuring a high quality finish on all products and conducting quality checks accordingly
• Adhering to the plants procedures and PPE instructions at all times
• Undertaking safe operation of equipment and machines within the Engineering Shop, including basic maintenance
• Working within COSHH regulations
• Adhering to UK Health and Safety legislation at all times

Essential requirements

• Driving Licence and access to own vehicle (due to shift timings)
• Previous experience or strong interest within a Heavy Industry, Construction, Production and/or Manufacturing environment
• Previous experience with operating and setting machinery (advantage)
• Enthusiasm towards continuous improvement and continued personal development
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to adhere to ALL the shift patterns mentioned above
• Flexibility towards overtime
• Ability to be standing for long periods of time and conduct regular light manual handling
• Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
