Job summary

Tata Steel, Trostre Works in Llanelli, is seeking a Science graduate to join its laboratory team as a Technical Specialist (Chemistry). Based in Llanelli, the role focuses on delivering analytical services to high standards within a controlled lab environment.

The contract is initially 3 months with a view to extension or permanent. Start ASAP subject to medical and drug tests, with a rate of £13.39ph (£25,408 per annum) and a 36.5-hour work week, Mon–Fri.

Qualifications

• Degree in science-related discipline (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of laboratory processes.
• Understanding of chemical laboratory testing.
• Experience in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to recognise the need for analysis and related factors.
• Strong health and safety knowledge in a laboratory environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• IT literacy with MS Office (Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Undertaking monitoring, sampling and testing procedures within the technical department.
• Being part of the nominated person(s) to conduct routine maintenance, breakdown and calibration of equipment.
• Supporting the technical Team Leader with Quality Assurance tasks.
• Ensuring COSHH documentation is maintained to the highest standard.
• Entering findings and results into the allocated databases.
• Reporting findings to relevant stakeholders and notifying non conformance to the Team Leader.
• Using SAP to raise requisitions.
• Following Tata Steel's safe working practices to the highest compliance level.
• In the absence of the Team leader, covering the department as required.

Tata Steel's historic Trostre Works manufactures over 400,000 tonnes of high-quality steel packaging every year. This role is ideal for a Science degree holder looking for an opportunity to provide an analytical service to the highest standard within a laboratory environment.

Role: Technical Specialist (Chemistry)

Location: Tata Steel, Trostre works, Llanelli, SA14 9SD

Rate: £13.39ph (£25,408 per annum)

Contract length: 3 months initially with the view to extend or offer a permanent position

Shift Patterns: Mon-Fri, 36.5 hours per week (08:30-16:45 Mon-Thu and Fri 08:30-15:45)

Start: ASAP but pending a successful medical assessment result, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test

Essential requirements:

• Degree educated (or equivalent) in a Science related discipline
• Good knowledge of laboratory processes
• Sound understanding of chemical laboratory testing
• Some experience within a laboratory environment
• Ability to recognise the need for analysis and factors surrounding this
• Strong health and Safety knowledge including safety implications in a laboratory environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skill
• It literacy especially with MS Office (Word, excel)

• Driving license and use of a car
• Knowledge of the Steel industry
