Job description

Production Manager

As we continue on our growth strategy, TES Power are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead the day-to-day manufacturing operations within a busy switchgear production environment. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering safe, efficient, high-quality production output in line with customer requirements, engineering specifications, delivery schedules, and business performance targets.

Supporting the Operations Director, you will be a key partner to all operational functions of the Manufacturing facility, partnering closely with senior leaders and management.

The successful candidate will manage a group of direct report Team Leaders and provide leadership across a production team of approximately 120 people, including indirect support staff. The role requires strong manufacturing discipline, visible shopfloor leadership, and the ability to build a high-performing culture focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and continuous improvement.

About the role
Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead, manage, coach, and develop Team Leaders and the wider production workforce to achieve agreed operational targets.
  • Take ownership of daily, weekly, and monthly production performance, ensuring switchgear products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Plan and coordinate production labour, resources, workflow, and priorities to meet project schedules, customer delivery commitments, and changing business demands.
  • Drive a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across all production areas, ensuring compliance with company procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Scheduling, Quality, Procurement, Stores, Logistics, Maintenance, and Project teams to resolve constraints, improve flow, and ensure smooth execution of customer orders.
  • Monitor production KPIs, including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, labour efficiency, rework, waste, and absence, and provide clear reporting to senior management.
  • Identify production risks, bottlenecks, skills gaps, material shortages, quality issues, and capacity constraints, taking corrective action quickly and effectively.
  • Champion continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, standard work, 5S, root-cause problem solving, and waste reduction across all production areas.
  • Ensure Team Leaders conduct effective daily briefings, allocate work appropriately, maintain discipline, and support employee engagement and performance management.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, skills development, succession planning, and performance reviews for production personnel.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, equipment care, documentation, traceability, and production record accuracy.
  • Contribute to budgetary control, cost reduction, capacity planning, and longer-term operational improvement projects.
The Person-Essential:
  • Proven experience in a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Operations Manager, or senior production leadership role within an engineering, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, assembly, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading production teams through direct-report supervisors, team leaders, or line managers.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing planning, production control, capacity management, labour allocation, and shopfloor performance management.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead large teams, set clear expectations, hold people accountable, and develop Team Leaders into effective frontline managers.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to promote safe working behaviours and compliance.
  • Strong quality mindset, with experience working to documented procedures, inspection standards, customer specifications, and corrective action processes.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Confident using production data, KPIs, ERP/MRP systems, and Microsoft Office tools to manage performance and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and maintain focus on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people.
The Person-Desirable:
  • Experience within switchgear, electrical panel build, power distribution, electrical assembly, control panels, or low‑voltage/high‑voltage electrical manufacturing.
  • Engineering, manufacturing, operations, electrical, mechanical, or business management qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, 5S, value stream improvement, root‑cause analysis, or Six Sigma tools.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, integrated management systems, product traceability, inspection and test plans, and technical documentation controls.
  • Experience supporting business growth, factory layout changes, capacity expansion, or operational transformation projects.
What We Offer
  • A senior leadership opportunity within a growing switchgear manufacturing business.
  • The opportunity to shape production performance, develop frontline leaders, and influence operational improvement.
  • A challenging and rewarding role with responsibility for a large production function and direct impact on customer delivery and business success.
