Job description

The Production Technical Inspector within GMA is responsible for daily production inspections to ensure the manufacture of high-quality vehicles across all models undertaken by Gordon Murray Automotive.

In this role, you will be part of the team to ramp up production at a low-volume, cutting-edge automotive manufacturing operation. Responsibilities include inspection of the iStream Primary structure, superlight frame structures, sub-assemblies, and parts. You will work with the Manufacturing Engineering and production teams to meet process targets.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Establish strong team relations at all levels, focusing on teamwork and inclusion.
  2. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering team members.
  3. Operate inspection machinery and tools in a low-volume production setting.
  4. Conduct quality checks for defects and label finished products.
  5. Work towards production targets.
  6. Support production, trials, and training activities.
  7. Assist with new model activities.
  8. Participate in problem-solving activities within the team.
  9. Be available for overtime, shutdowns, and travel as needed.
  10. Work with GMA/GMAE Engineering teams to improve manufacturing processes.
  11. Maintain computer literacy in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  12. Communicate effectively to liaise and convey points clearly.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  1. Experience with metrology, inspection methods, and equipment, including measurement arms/scanning.
  2. Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  3. Experience in macro checks of arc welding.
  4. Understanding of manufacturing processes, preferably in low-volume automotive manufacturing.
  5. Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies such as 8D.
  6. Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  7. Knowledge of welded aluminium structures, composites, bonding, plastic mouldings, and assembly processes is advantageous.
  8. Strong planning, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  9. Negotiation skills.
  10. Ability to present data effectively.
  11. Understanding of health and safety practices.
  12. Experience with Catia V5 or similar CAD systems for dimensional verification.
  13. Approximately 5 years of relevant experience at an appropriate company or OEM.
  14. Experience across full product lifecycle and ability to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
  15. Proficiency in cross-functional and cross-company processes.
  16. Team player capable of working closely with other teams.
