Job description

Production Engineering Manager – Hertfordshire

Good benefits package

Flexible / Hybrid working

If your idea of Engineering management is spending all day updating spreadsheets and sitting in meetings, this probably isn't for you.

But...

  • If you enjoy taking ownership.
  • Leading engineers who actually want to improve.
  • Making manufacturing easier, quicker and smarter.
  • And seeing the changes you make have a direct impact on customers... Then keep reading.

Our client builds products for customers who expect them to get it right. Every time.

That means introducing new products properly, following build plans in place, but amending them for NPI projects. Building robust manufacturing processes. Solving problems before they become expensive ones. And continually looking for ways to improve.

Lead the Production Engineering Team

We're looking for someone to lead our Production Engineering team and make all of that happen.

Not by standing on the sidelines with a folder in hand, observing, ticking boxes and being unavailable most of the time.

By getting involved.

You’ll lead a team of 7‑8 engineers and drawing office staff, helping them prioritise work, develop their skills and deliver high standards every day.

You’ll work closely with Production, Planning and our customers to make sure new products move into manufacture without unnecessary delays, confusion or firefighting.

You’ll review drawings, build manufacturing documentation, improve tooling, remove bottlenecks, question why things are done a certain way, then make them better.

Continuous improvement isn't something we talk about once a month. It’s part of the job, every day.

Your profile

You’ll probably recognise yourself if...

  • You’ve managed engineers before.
  • Have worked in hands‑on, shop floor engineering – ideally with some form of electronics / electro‑mechanical manufacturing experience.
  • You’ve introduced new products into production and know that every successful build starts long before the first component is assembled.
  • You’re comfortable making decisions, and owning them.
  • People come to you when something needs sorting, some advice, or just an “extra set of eyes” to look something over.
  • You don’t wait to be told there’s a better way of doing something. You find it.
What you’ll get in return
  • A role with genuine responsibility, and be given the tools (literally, and figuratively) to get anything done you want.
  • The chance to influence how our Production Engineering department operates.
  • The opportunity to lead a capable team whilst continuing to improve the way we manufacture.
  • The satisfaction of seeing your ideas make a measurable difference—not just inside engineering, but across the whole business.

If you’re looking for somewhere you can make your mark, rather than simply maintain the status quo, we’d like to hear from you.
