Job summary

Progress Rail UK is seeking a Production Design Engineer to support the manufacture of cast manganese products. You will create detailed casting drawings, work sketches, routing instructions and Bills of Materials, ensuring designs are production-ready and meet safety and quality standards.

You will collaborate with Pattern Making, Methoding and Machining teams to optimise processes, drive improvements, and ensure documentation aligns with operational requirements.

Qualifications

• HNC or equivalent in mechanical or production engineering is required.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings to industry standards.
• Understanding of procedures and manufacturing processes is essential.
• Familiarity with common engineering codes and standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD or NX is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Process jobs accurately to maximise throughput and efficiency.
• Improve existing products, processes and design tools.
• Produce designs for pattern production with cross-functional teams.
• Ensure safety and project risks are communicated to the line manager.
• Provide high quality drawings and supporting documentation.
• Develop design tools and software as needed.
• Consider manufacturability and maintainability throughout design.
• Support manufacturing operations with NCRs and process changes.
