Job summary

Westray Recruitment Consultants Ltd in Washington, Tyne and Wear, is seeking a full-time Production Assembly Technician to manufacture, assemble and pack precision components. The role reports to the Production Team Leader and Operations Director, ensuring work to approved processes and quality standards in a cost-effective manner.

This hands-on role involves calibrations, R&D testing support, and investigations into failed units, with opportunities to advance as skills grow.

Qualifications

  • G/CSE or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use initiative and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture cables and probe assemblies to customer specifications using machinery and hand tools.
  • Prepare and pack product for despatch; record processes or enter into ERP.
  • Inspect own work during and after completion.
  • Laboratory testing as part of the manufacturing process.
  • Carry out calibrations of new and returned equipment.
  • Investigate failed products and carry out product development tests as directed.
  • Produce detailed reports for all work; maintain documentation for quality and H&S.

  • Permanent role from day one
  • Washington, Tyne & Wear location
  • Salary is circa £32K – rising to £36K upon successful training (approx. 18 months)
  • Working hours Monday to Thursday 07:30am-4pm & Friday 07:30am-12:30pm
  • 28 days holiday including statutory

THE BUSINESS

We are seeking a full-time Production Assembly Technician to join a manufacturing business based in Washington, Tyne and Wear. Our client is a circa £3M turnover business and they design & manufacture precision components used within various industries including Nuclear, Aerospace and Renewables sectors. 60% of the client’s market is based in the US with 20% being within Europe and the remaining 20% across Asian markets.

THE ROLE

This is a full-time position to join the Washington, Tyne & Wear facility. Reporting to the Production Team Leader and Operations Director the role is to manufacture, assemble, and pack products in accordance with approved processes, process methods and quality standards and customer requirements in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring high quality in a cost-effective manner.

Additionally, to provide support to the Technical Department on calibrations, research and development testing, and carrying out investigations on failed and returned units.

  • Manufacture cables and probe assemblies to customer requirements and product specification using appropriate machinery/equipment/hand tools
  • Prepare and pack product for despatch and record the process and/or enter into ERP system
  • Inspection of own work during and on completion
  • Laboratory testing as required in the manufacturing process
  • Carry out calibrations of new and returned equipment
  • Perform investigation into failed product
  • Research and development testing for any product line as instructed by the responsible engineer
  • Produce comprehensive and detailed reports for all work completed
  • Routine basic equipment maintenance
  • Accurately complete production, quality, H&S and maintenance documentation
  • General housekeeping duties
  • Assist the Technical and Operations departments with any other activities to meet changing business requirements
THE PERSON

(G)CSE or equivalent qualification in English Language and Mathematics

  • Demonstrable experience of using initiative and working to deadlines
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and/or individually
  • Computer literate in MS Office package
  • Ability to perform basic manufacturing and engineering activities
  • Ability to solder, use of hand tools
  • Ability to use and interpret results from electrical test equipment
  • Understand and interpret engineering drawings
  • At least 2 years’ experience working within a manufacturing environment
  • A positive attitude and is willing to learn more skills on the job
  • Confidence on the job and is happy to take on more responsibility if necessary
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Attention to detail
Preferred:
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary role
  • Fork Lift Truck licence
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing operations and/or 5S
  • Laser welding experience
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
