Exciting Career Opportunity | Digital Product Owner – Apps and Connected Platforms

Aquilo Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with Ideal Heating to recruit a Digital Product Owner - Apps & Connected Platforms!

Ideal Heating is a well-established, market-leading business with a strong reputation for quality, innovation and delivering outstanding heating solutions. With a fantastic company culture and a clear focus on continuous improvement, this is an exciting opportunity to join a business that is investing in its future and driving low carbon heating solutions.

With hybrid working on offer of one day a week remotely, this role is ideal for an experienced digital product owner looking for their next challenge — an opportunity to make a real impact, shape digital product development and work collaboratively across the business.

About the Role

Ideal Heating is transforming its portfolio to support the UK's transition to low-carbon heating and hot water. As connected technologies and digital services become increasingly important, the successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of customer-facing applications and cloud platforms.

You will own the connected product backlog and prioritisation across mobile apps, cloud platforms and APIs supporting connected heating and hot water appliances. Acting as the bridge between Product Management, IoT and Controls Engineering, and external software development partners, you'll ensure digital capabilities maximise customer value and support wider business objectives.

Combining hands-on Agile product ownership with strategic responsibility for the Domestic business's long-term connected products roadmap, you'll also ensure compliance with emerging industry and cybersecurity regulations, including Smart Secure Electricity Systems (SSES), future energy flexibility standards and the Cyber Resilience Act.

Key Responsibilities
1. Product Ownership & Agile Delivery
  • Own and manage backlogs for connected product platforms and heating and hot water applications.
  • Translate business requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised development activities.
  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning and prioritisation, acting as the primary product representative within Agile teams.
  • Ensure features meet customer value propositions, business objectives and technical requirements.
  • Define and measure success criteria for new digital capabilities.
  • Support release planning, testing, user acceptance and deployment readiness.

Develop and maintain the connected products roadmap across:

  • Consumer mobile applications and installer apps and digital services.
  • Cloud platforms, APIs, remote monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Connected controls and energy optimisation services.

Align digital roadmaps with appliance product roadmaps covering boilers, heat pumps, hot water cylinders, electric heating products, controls and thermostats.

Identify opportunities for connected services that enhance customer experience, system performance and energy efficiency while increasing aftermarket revenue.

3. Stakeholder & Partner Management

Act as the central coordination point across:

  • Product Management and Product Managers for boilers, heat pumps, cylinders and electric heating.
  • IoT Engineering, Controls Engineering and R&D leadership.
  • Digital, IT and Cyber Security.
  • Customer Experience, Technical Service and Marketing.
  • The Product Director – Domestic.

Work closely with external software development partners, connectivity and technology suppliers, integration partners, service providers, industry bodies and regulatory stakeholders to:

  • Define development priorities and manage sprint outcomes.
  • Align resource requirements and challenge and validate technical solutions.
  • Deliver against business objectives, manage budgets and allocate spend appropriately.
4. Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
  • Maintain a strategic overview of emerging regulations for connected energy appliances.
  • Lead compliance planning for SSES and associated energy-smart appliance requirements.
  • Translate regulatory obligations into platform requirements and delivery plans alongside internal technical experts.
  • Embed cybersecurity, data privacy and connected product compliance into roadmap development, working with the business's wider experts and systems.
  • Gather feedback from homeowners, installers, merchants and housing providers to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor competitor digital platforms and connected product ecosystems.
  • Use customer insight and analytics to inform prioritisation decisions.
  • Support business cases and investment proposals for future connected product development.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Digital Product Manager or in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience managing product backlogs in Jira.
  • Experience working with software development teams and third-party technology partners.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities across multiple stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset and experience using data to inform decisions.
  • Experience delivering customer-facing digital products, applications or cloud platforms.
  • Experience in IoT, connected devices or smart home technologies.
  • Knowledge of heating, HVAC, energy or utility markets.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms, APIs and connected ecosystems.
  • Experience in energy flexibility, demand-side response or smart energy services.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and connected product regulations.
  • Understanding of SSES requirements and emerging energy-smart appliance legislation.
Personal Attributes

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness.
  • Customer-focused and outcome-driven.
  • Highly organised, with excellent prioritisation skills.
  • Confident challenging assumptions and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and effective across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passionate about connected technologies and customer-focused product development.
  • Comfortable operating in both technical and non-technical environments.
How Success Will Be Measured

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain a clear, prioritised backlog aligned with business objectives.
  • Deliver agreed digital roadmap milestones on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Ensure alignment between appliance product roadmaps and cloud platform development.
  • Achieve compliance readiness for SSES and other connected product regulations.
  • Improve customer satisfaction with connected digital platforms.
