Job description

Cambridge, UK| Full-time | Permanent| Hybrid

Salary: £58,000 to £75,000 DOE

The salary range for this role is broad as we are able to consider varying levels of experience. Any offer made will carefully take into account level of experience (including relevant industry experience), transferable relevant skills and previous relevant achievements.

We will also consider part-time applications for this role. Please indicate your preferred working schedule in your cover letter.

About us

Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. From advances in material science to complex chemistry simulation for drug design and discovery, quantum computers will help solve some of the world’s most important challenges. Riverlane is building the quantum error correction stack, Deltaflow, to make this happen. It’s a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

We recently raised $75M in Series C funding to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), and are partnering with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

Due to continued growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Product Manager to help us define the product vision and strategy for the software elements of our QEC stack (Deltaflow). As Product Manager for our Deltaflow software tools, your goal is to help turn Deltaflow into a unique and successful product in the fast-evolving QEC space, while aligning the software tools with our software strategy.

This role is critical in ensuring our software stack, in particular the fault tolerant compiler, successfully unlocks the full flexibility and performance of Deltaflow for our users.

What you will do

Collaborating closely with our software engineering teams, our wider product management team and with internal end-users, you will leverage your Product Management experience to:

Vision & Strategy

  • Distill Riverlane’s go-to-market and open-source strategy into a detailed software product strategy by defining: Who is this product for? What are the outcomes of the product? What are the tactics to successfully deploy the product? How will our customers use it, and what do they expect to achieve with it? How does it showcase our scientific leadership in the field of quantum error correction?
  • Collaborate closely with (internal) end users to understand current and future needs

Product Development

  • Develop market/customer information gathering tactics and converting user feedback into detailed product requirements, narratives and technical specifications (PRD)
  • Develop product life cycle strategies
  • Work closely with Riverlane’s science/engineering teams to ensure product features and engineering schedules are signed off against the business plan
  • Collaborate closely with the hardware product development team to understand interfaces and how to best expose Deltaflow via the software
  • Work closely with Riverlane’s open-source engineering team to expose those tools to the wider user community to help increase customer adoption

Product usability

  • Develop strategies to maximise the usability and improve the user experience (e.g. documentation, examples, design release schedule etc.) in collaboration with the Community team
  • Develop collateral, including presentations, white papers and benchmarks for products and their applicability in the context of Riverlane’s roadmap and partnerships

Data-Driven Insights

  • Leverage product usage metrics, market insights (e.g. news, breakthroughs), qualitative customer and market data to deeply understand user needs and guide future product development
  • Gain deep knowledge of competitor and ecosystem trends

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with our research, product design and engineering teams to bring new capabilities to life
  • Support the Deltaflow Lead Product Manager in creating new and exciting opportunities for Deltaflow

What we need

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a STEM-related subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience working as a Junior Product Manager/Product Manager for software tools (please note that this does not include SaaS-related experience), including product shipping experience
  • Ability to work with high degree of agency
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to effectively translate complex scientific concepts into software features, communicating successfully with both scientists and engineers
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and pivots calmly and effectively
  • Ability and willingness to operate at both a strategic and hands-on (technical) level
  • Excellent collaborator: ability to successfully bring together opinions and requirements from science/engineering/project management teams
  • An interest and willingness to learn about quantum computing

What can you expect from us

  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme
  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and learning, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
