About us

Macmillan Cancer Support exists to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. Data plays a vital role in helping us understand the people we support, make better decisions and ensure our resources have the greatest possible impact. We’re looking for a Data Product Manager to join our Technology Directorate and help us turn data into trusted, accessible and reusable products and capabilities.

About the role

Our Product team looks after a wide range of products, platforms, data and tools used by people living with and affected by cancer, as well as our supporters, volunteers and colleagues. As a Data Product Manager, you’ll work across Macmillan and with external partners to develop and improve our data platform and create reusable data products and capabilities that help colleagues make better decisions, deliver more personalised experiences and maximise Macmillan's impact.

You’ll own product visions and roadmaps, understand the needs of data users, prioritise backlogs and work closely with data engineers, architects, analysts and other specialists to deliver products that are useful, sustainable and trusted. You’ll champion a data product mindset, ensuring datasets, pipelines and capabilities have clear users, ownership, measures of success and lifecycle management, rather than being developed as one-off solutions. You’ll also help ensure our products are developed responsibly, embedding principles around data quality, privacy, security, governance, access and sustainability from the outset.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced product manager, with experience managing data products or data platforms through discovery, delivery, adoption and continuous improvement.
  • Curious and collaborative, able to explore complex problems, understand different perspectives and bring people together around solutions.
  • Confident working with data and technology, with a practical understanding of areas such as data pipelines, modelling, APIs, integrations, metadata, lineage and access controls.
  • A strong data product thinker, who understands how to create reusable data products rather than simply responding to individual data requests.
  • Evidence and outcome focused, able to use insight and data to prioritise work, make investment decisions and demonstrate value.
  • Comfortable navigating complexity, including working with multidisciplinary teams and managing complex integrations and technical constraints.
  • Experienced in agile and lean delivery, with a pragmatic approach that keeps teams focused on delivering value.
  • A strong communicator and relationship builder, able to work effectively across Macmillan and with external suppliers and partners.
  • Knowledgeable about responsible data use, including data quality, privacy, security, governance, retention and access.

Most importantly, you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to use data, technology and product thinking to make a real difference to people living with cancer.
