  • Develop and maintain Data Governance standards, processes, guidance and documentation, helping to establish consistent approaches across Macmillan.
  • Create and maintain key Data Management outputs, including our Data Catalogue, Metadata Repository, Business Glossary and Data Lineage.
  • Support the population, maintenance and adoption of Microsoft Purview and other data governance tools.
  • Work with Data Owners, Data Stewards and business stakeholders to capture and maintain metadata, business definitions, ownership information, classifications and Critical Data Elements.
  • Document data lineage and flows across systems, data platforms, reports and analytical outputs, helping colleagues understand how data moves through Macmillan.
  • Catalogue and document reports, dashboards, datasets and data products.
  • Help improve data quality by supporting Data Quality Management, reporting and dashboards, identifying issues and helping teams understand and address them.
  • Champion good Data Governance and Data Management practices, providing advice and guidance that enables colleagues to use data with greater confidence.
  • Contribute to Data Governance maturity and continuous improvement, helping us evolve our approach as our data environment and organisational needs develop.
  • Build strong relationships across technical and business teams, translating complex data concepts into clear, practical information that different audiences can understand and use.
You'll have experience working in Data Governance, Data Management, Business Intelligence, Data Analysis or a closely related discipline, and a genuine interest in making data better.
  • A strong understanding of Data Governance and Data Management principles, including metadata, data ownership, stewardship, business glossaries and data catalogues.
  • Practical experience developing and maintaining data management artefacts such as Data Catalogues, Metadata Repositories, Business Glossaries, Data Lineage and Data Flow documentation.
  • Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather, document and maintain data-related information and requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with data quality concepts, data quality reporting or data quality dashboards.
  • Experience of reporting and analysis using tools such as Excel, Power BI or similar.
  • Good exposure to Data Warehousing, Reporting and Analytics environments.
  • Experience of working with Azure or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Experience working with CRM, customer data or similar information, ideally including Microsoft Dynamics 365 or another customer data platform.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make data-related concepts understandable and relevant to different audiences.

You don't need to be an expert in every technology we use. What's important is that you have the technical understanding to work confidently with data and governance concepts, alongside the communication skills to bring people with you. Experience of fundraising, CRM or supporter management systems within the charity sector is a bonus, but we're more interested in your ability to apply your expertise, learn our environment and build effective relationships across the organisation. At Macmillan Cancer Support, data has a vital role to play in helping us understand the people we support, make better decisions and ensure we can do whatever it takes for people living with cancer. We're looking for a Data Governance Analyst to join our small, collaborative team and help strengthen the way data is understood, managed and governed across Macmillan. This is a hands-on role where you'll help turn data governance principles into practical ways of working. You'll create and maintain the standards, processes and documentation that help colleagues understand what our data means, where it comes from, who owns it and how it should be used.
