An opportunity has arisen for a Product Manager - Commercial to join the Product & Delivery department.

About the role

The Commercial Product Manager is a technically strong and commercially driven professional responsible for leading the development, launch, and commercialisation of products that accelerate the electrification and decarbonisation of heavy industry. This role combines strategic product leadership with deep technical understanding of power electronics and energy systems, ensuring Fortescue remains at the forefront of industrial sustainability and innovation.

Working collaboratively across engineering, operations, and commercial functions, the Commercial Product Manager will drive products from concept through deployment, delivering solutions that reduce emissions, enhance efficiency, and create long‑term value for industrial customers. Embody Fortescue’s Values in all interactions.

What you will do
Product Strategy and Leadership
  • Define and execute the product strategy and roadmap for industrial electrification and power system solutions.
  • Translate customer, regulatory, and operational requirements into detailed Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and actionable development priorities.
  • Ensure alignment of product initiatives with Fortescue’s sustainability, energy transition, and zero‑emission strategy.
  • Manage the end‑to‑end product lifecycle — from concept and prototyping through validation, pilot deployment, commercial launch, and continuous improvement.
Technical and Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Innovation, and Manufacturing teams to guide product design, testing, and industrialisation.
  • Support technical feasibility assessments, manufacturing readiness reviews, and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Ensure all products meet relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and certification requirements (IEC, IEEE, ISO, etc.).
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement to evaluate suppliers, components, and technology partners for commercial viability.
Market, Customer, and Commercial Focus
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, technology shifts, and partnership opportunities within industrial electrification.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Business Development to define go‑to‑market strategies, pricing, and customer value propositions.
  • Engage directly with customers to capture use cases, performance targets, and total cost of ownership (TCO) drivers for electrified systems.
  • Develop and maintain business cases, financial models, and ROI analyses to support product investment and portfolio decisions.
Performance and Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor product performance metrics, including adoption, reliability, and sustainability impact, providing insights to guide iteration.
  • Support operational readiness by coordinating cross-functional launch and lifecycle management activities.
  • Identify opportunities for product enhancement and portfolio growth based on customer feedback and market intelligence.
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Energy Systems, or related discipline).
  • Significant experience in product management, technical leadership, or business development within industrial equipment, power systems, or clean energy technologies.
  • Strong technical understanding of:
    • Electric motors and drives
    • Power electronics and conversion systems
    • High‑voltage infrastructure or microgrids
    • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Proven track record in cross‑functional project delivery across engineering, commercial, and operational domains.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills, including business case development and financial modelling.
  • Familiarity with industrial regulations, safety standards, and sustainability metrics.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence technical and executive audiences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.
Preferred
  • Experience in mining, manufacturing, transportation, or energy infrastructure sectors.
  • Background in electrical engineering, power systems, or industrial automation.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and digital product data tools.
  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Passion for sustainability, decarbonisation, and the global energy transition.
Attributes
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and technical credibility.
  • Collaborative and adaptable, able to navigate complex multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Data‑driven decision‑maker with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
