Job summary

Referment is seeking a hands-on Product Engineer to transform ambiguous ideas into reliable, production-ready features. You will collaborate with machine-learning engineers and clinicians to deliver value across end-to-end product delivery in a regulated health-tech setting.

You will own features from design to release, design APIs and data models, and ensure robust testing and thoughtful trade-offs in a fast-paced startup environment in the UK.

Qualifications

Referment is working with a healthcare technology company building software that helps clinical teams deliver ADHD and autism assessments more efficiently. Its platform handles sensitive patient information and supports clinicians through complex assessment workflows, so product decisions have a direct effect on both clinical work and the patient experience.

This is a hands-on Product Engineer role for someone who enjoys taking ambiguous problems from an early idea through to a reliable feature in production. You will work closely with machine-learning engineers and clinicians, combining sound product judgement with strong full-stack engineering to solve the edge cases that emerge when software meets real clinical practice.

This could suit a senior full-stack or product-minded software engineer who wants end-to-end ownership, close contact with users and technically demanding work in a regulated setting. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not currently available, and a background check is required before starting.

The Role

• Build and ship complex, AI-enabled full-stack features from initial scoping through production release.

What We're Looking For

• At least five years of professional software engineering experience, including clear ownership of substantial features from design to release.
• Strong hands-on full-stack proficiency with Python, React, and AWS is essential for this role.
• A product-focused mindset, ideally with experience as a founding or early-stage startup engineer.
• Good context-building habits: you can read an existing codebase, ask precise questions and understand how a change fits the wider product.
• Comfort working with incomplete specifications and making sound product and engineering decisions independently.
• The ability to commit fully to the role's requirements; this position is best suited for those without ongoing management responsibilities in other businesses or ventures.

Desirable Experience

• TypeScript or Auth0.
• Building products on LLM APIs, particularly Amazon Bedrock.
• Experience in HealthTech, clinical software, or another regulated environment.
• Working with sensitive health or personal data and applying practical data-protection principles.
• Explaining technical choices clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
