Job summary

Corecom Consulting is seeking a Senior Product Engineer in Leeds to own and evolve backend services. You will design, build and maintain scalable PHP/Python systems, lead API development, and drive architectural decisions in a fast-growing tech environment.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and QA teams, and help shape the platform's technical direction while delivering high-impact features and maintaining engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using PHP and Python.
• Develop and enhance APIs, platform components and core product features.
• Take ownership of complex technical projects from development through to delivery.
• Improve system performance, reliability and scalability.
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Conduct code reviews and implement automated testing best practices.
• Collaborate with Product, QA and Engineering teams to deliver new features.
• Identify technical improvements and contribute to reducing technical debt.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
• Contribute to technical architecture discussions and engineering roadmaps.
• Strong commercial backend development experience with PHP and/or Python.
• Willingness to work with both PHP and Python long-term.
• Strong experience designing and developing REST APIs and backend services.
• Good understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with software engineering principles including SOLID, DRY and clean code.
• Knowledge of automated testing, TDD and code refactoring.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to independently deliver complex technical projects.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Commercial experience with both PHP and Python.
• Experience with Symfony, Laminas or FastAPI.
• Microservices architecture and service decomposition.
• Experience working within SaaS or complex product-led environments.
• Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team, taking ownership of complex backend systems, delivering high-impact features and helping shape the technical direction of the platform.

You'll work closely with Engineering Managers, Technical Leads and Product Managers to build scalable services, improve system performance and maintain high engineering standards.
