Job summary

Greencore is seeking a Product Development Technologist on a 6‑month fixed term contract in Selby. You will validate product developments and prepare documentation to support customer acceptance up to launch.

The role requires an appropriate degree (Food/Nutrition) or equivalent experience, strong analytical/numeracy skills, good communication, and a full UK driving licence. Travel may be required. You will collaborate with NPD, QA and packaging teams to ensure successful shelf-ready products.

Qualifications

  • Ideally a degree in Food or Nutrition Science, or equivalent work experience in a similar role or environment.
  • Some experience or knowledge of food and the food environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and full numeracy.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Input recipes onto the recipe management system to assess the cost and nutritional information and ensure delivery against the brief.
  • Brief new, revised and repeat material requirements to the NPD buyers and packaging innovation team to ensure the correct resources are available for product development.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation (feasibility forms, customer submission forms, concept-to-process handovers etc.) to ensure their accuracy prior to product developer approval.
  • Assist with the preparation of kitchen-made samples to support the chefs/product developers in preparation for internal panels, nutritional testing and customer presentations.
  • Plan, set up and prepare product and coordinate ordering or purchasing of items for all sample requests, book courier transportation as required, and document findings and action plan for next steps to deliver a professional internal product panel for EPD, NPD and benchmarking.
  • Complete kitchen organoleptic testing throughout the product shelf-life cycle, documenting the findings and making suggestions for recipe reformulations to ensure required shelf-life and quality standards are achieved.
  • Follow the critical-path timelines as directed, escalating and mitigating incomplete tasks and risks to prevent delays in product acceptance and launch.
  • Consider sustainability in all NPD and EPD, applying rationale to product development and supporting data input and collation.
  • Accurately label products and box samples to be sent externally.
  • Buy ingredient supplies and benchmark samples when required.
  • Provide a small amount of travel; applicant must have a valid UK driving licence.

What you’ll be doing
