Job summary

Asda Stores Ltd is seeking a Product Development Manager to lead Own Brand Biscuits and Snacks across Impulse Grocery. You will drive category development, ensure quality, manage suppliers, and deliver on launch timelines.

Based at Asda House, Leeds, the role offers hybrid working with up to two days per week at home. A food/nutrition degree and strong commercial and technical product development experience are essential.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Grocery, BWS & Prep Produce Own Brand Product Development team in the role of Product Manager across the following Own Brand categories of Biscuits and Snacks in Impulse Grocery. Own label product development is key to our business strategy, driving quality, innovation and newness for our Asda customer to enjoy. You'll see yourself leading from the front, driving category development and taking responsibility for implementing the Trading and Own Brand product development across Impulse. The Role You'll ensure thatthe categorydelivers against their quality benchmark; that Innovation and newness is landed across your category and that Quality is maintained along with the necessary legal requirements in terms of labelling are met. You will also make sure that your suppliers comply with the Asda policies throughout the product development process. As a Product Development Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining product Quality for our customers, driving innovation, cost-saving and developing products across the categories. You will ensure adherence to the product launch critical path, drive category product reviews and customer focused briefs alongside our trading teams. From food sourcing plans to PR events and product launches, you will be focused on quality, product specification, labelling, nutrition, legislation and cost. You will champion your category, participate in wider project work cross functionally and/or individually; and deliver in line with the broader business objectives.

About You

• Have a proven track record of working in a dynamic retail environment, managing complexity and competing priorities, delivering innovative product ranges.
• Passionate about quality and consistency and all things food & drinks related. You will have gained experience within a food manufacturing, food retailing or food technology environment and have been instrumental in delivering innovative food & drink products which exceed quality standards.
• Have a food/nutrition-based degree or equivalent qualification, you will demonstrate strong food product development/technical skills combined with a commercial understanding and passion for the customer
• Strong awareness of customer requirements, market trends and competitor ranges
• Ability to identify strategic opportunities and innovative product ideas
• A pro-active team member with strong interpersonal, organisation and stakeholder management skills you will be able to work independently, prioritise effectively, in a fast-paced retail environment and deliver to deadlines within specific tight timescales
• An eye for quality and detail is essential
• PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Specification systems) advantageous
• Have a working knowledge of an industry Product & Packaging specifications system
