West London design consultancy is seeking a contract Product Design Engineer to turn established design intent into robust, manufacturable parts across medical, healthcare and consumer devices. Outside IR35, on site, with potential to convert to permanent for the right person.

The role sits between industrial design and mechanical engineering, requiring excellent SOLIDWORKS skills to master modelling and to drive tooling-ready plastic housings with strong DFM, delivering parts ready to cut.

A West London design consultancy needs a contract Product Design Engineer to turn established design intent into robust, manufacturable parts across medical, healthcare and consumer devices. Outside IR35, on site, with genuine potential to convert to permanent for the right person.

Scope of the role

This Product Design Engineer role sits in the sweet spot between industrial design and mechanical engineering, taking a developed design intent and engineering it into parts that are ready to cut.

• Take established design intent and engineer it into clean, manufacturable parts.
• Master model in SOLIDWORKS and build a robust solid CAD database others can build on.
• Engineer plastic housings and casework through to tooling drawings, applying sound DFM throughout.
• Work on handheld detail such as buttons, joysticks and capsense interfaces, keeping parts feeling right in the hand.
• Bring standalone subsystems together into full systems, solving practical challenges as they arise.

Key skills and experience required

• A genuine Product Design Engineer or Design Engineer, comfortable in the space between industrial design and mechanical engineering.
• Excellent SOLIDWORKS skills, confident master modelling and building solid CAD databases.
• Proven experience engineering plastic housings through to tooling drawings, with strong DFM.
• Personally owned delivery on comparable projects, doing the work rather than being one part of a very large team.
• Available to start within roughly two weeks and to work on site in West London five days a week.
• Contract engagement, set up outside IR35 via Kingsbridge.
• Minimum three months.
• Weekly timesheets, paid monthly.
• On site at a West London studio, five days a week.

You would join a long established product design and development consultancy in West London, working alongside an existing design and engineering team. The studio takes physical products from early design intent through to manufacture across medical, healthcare, industrial and consumer markets. There is a strong pipeline of confirmed work running into next spring, and this Product Design Engineer role gives you real ownership of your own workstream from day one. The pace is fast and the work is practical, with real deadlines and parts heading to tooling. Senior people are on hand to guide you, but you drive your own projects.
