Job summary

Laborup is hiring a Senior Product Design Engineer in the Birmingham area to lead hands‑on mechanical design of heavy‑duty equipment from concept to production release.

You will own projects, develop 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings, apply GD&T, tolerance analysis and DFm, and work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are feasible and robust in industrial environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of mechanical design or product engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience designing mechanical equipment, machinery, or manufactured products.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting software; Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred.

We are hiring a Senior Product Design Engineer for an established industrial manufacturing operation in the Birmingham area. This is a hands‑on mechanical design role focused on developing complex, heavy‑duty equipment and fabricated products used in demanding industrial environments.

The Senior Product Design Engineer will own projects from initial concept and customer requirements through detailed design, manufacturing drawings, engineering changes, and production release. This is an experienced‑level position for an engineer who understands not only how to design a product, but also how it will be fabricated, welded, machined, assembled, and used in the field.

Requirements

• 5+ years of mechanical design or product engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience designing mechanical equipment, machinery, or manufactured products.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting software; Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, engineering drawings, and design for manufacturability.
• Experience taking designs from concept through manufacturing/production.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent technical education and relevant experience will also be considered.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work directly with manufacturing, customers, and other engineering disciplines.
