Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Procurement Spend Compliance Practitioner to join the Transformation, Reporting and Intelligence team. You will turn procurement data into insights to drive better decisions and strengthen commercial governance.

You’ll analyse spending patterns, monitor compliance, identify risks and collaborate with finance and procurement colleagues to improve data quality and reporting.

The role is permanent, 36.5 hours per week, with flexible and hybrid working options.

Qualifications

• Proficient with large datasets, cleansing and validation tasks.

About The Role

As a Procurement Spend Compliance Practitioner, you'll play a key role in improving commercial oversight by:

• Collecting, validating and analysing procurement and spend data from multiple sources to produce accurate compliance reporting.
• Supporting the development and continuous improvement of spend compliance dashboards and performance reporting.
• Monitoring procurement activity to identify non-compliant spend, contract leakage, emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Undertaking detailed analysis to identify trends, anomalies and potential areas of financial or procurement risk.
• Producing reports, briefings and visualisations that translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and governance boards.
• Working closely with finance teams, budget holders and procurement colleagues to improve data quality and strengthen compliance.
• Supporting the development of procurement strategy through evidence-based analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with data and can turn complex information into practical recommendations. You'll bring:

• Experience analysing, validating and interpreting data within a regulated, governance or compliance-focused environment.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills with experience manipulating, cleansing and analysing large datasets.
• The ability to identify trends, interpret complex numerical information and produce meaningful management information.
• Excellent written communication skills, presenting technical findings clearly through reports, dashboards and data visualisations.
• Strong attention to detail with a structured approach to maintaining accurate, reliable data.
• Excellent relationship-building skills, working collaboratively with colleagues to improve data quality and resolve issues.
• A commitment to continuous professional development and improving commercial and procurement intelligence.
