Procurement Specialist – University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust

Overview

Wessex NHS Procurement Limited (WPL) offers a fantastic opportunity to join our Facilities Management procurement team. The role sits at the heart of FM, shaping and delivering contracts across catering, retail services, security, portering, and sustainability projects to support day-to-day hospital operations and the patient and staff experience across the Trusts.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead and manage procurement projects within Facilities Management, from tendering to contract management, ensuring value for money and strategic outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver contracts that support hospital operations, including multi-million-pound catering contracts and sustainability initiatives.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, manage projects from start to finish, and work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Apply understanding of tendering, contract management and e-procurement to inform decision making and supplier selection.

You will work closely with the procurement team and stakeholders, taking ownership of projects and supporting others as needed.

Qualifications / Training
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Purchasing & Supply or equivalent
  • Expertise in Contract Management and EU Procurement through formal training and experience
  • Knowledge of professional purchasing principles
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Experience in the public sector and working knowledge of regulations
  • Membership of CIPS
Experience
  • Significant experience negotiating with suppliers in a large organisation with a track record of cost reductions
  • Experience of competitive tenders/quotations and contract negotiations
  • Experience and training in contract management
  • Good knowledge of procurement law and quality control processes and ability to provide specialist advice
Aptitudes and Skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and purchasing and inventory software
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
