Job summary

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking a motivated Procurement Officer (Social Value) to lead the Council's approach to embedding social value within procurement and contract management activities, ensuring every pound spent delivers meaningful economic, environmental and social benefits for local communities.

Qualifications

• Experience in social value, sustainability and community development desirable.
• Experience in supplier engagement and procurement beneficial.
• Willingness to work towards professional procurement qualification desirable.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and proactive Procurement Officer (Social Value) to join our Procurement Team. This exciting role will lead the Council's approach to embedding social value within procurement and contract management activities, helping to ensure that every pound spent delivers meaningful economic, environmental and social benefits for local communities. Working closely with commissioners, contract managers, suppliers and community stakeholders, you will play a key role in developing social value initiatives, monitoring delivery of commitments and evidencing the positive impact generated through Council contracts. You will also support procurement activity across a range of goods, services and works, ensuring compliance with procurement legislation and Council procedures.

You will be expected to demonstrate how you meet the key accountabilities and competencies in this . Our are to be read in conjunction with our Recruitment Pack.

All new starters will join us on a four-month probationary period. During this time, if you are offered a Hybrid role you will be required to attend a Central Bedfordshire Council office location more frequently to support thorough and well-supported onboarding into your role. Please keep this in mind if you anticipate extensive travel to Central Bedfordshire.

You'll be passionate about creating positive outcomes for communities and able to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be organised, proactive and comfortable analysing information, monitoring performance and demonstrating impact.

Experience in social value, sustainability, community development, supplier engagement, procurement, commissioning or contract management would be beneficial, although we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a genuine interest in delivering social and environmental value through public services.

A relevant qualification such as CIPS, or a willingness to work towards a professional procurement qualification, is desirable.
