Job description

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a rapidly growing renewable energy provider to recruit a Procurement Manager for its UK-wide operations, with main sites in Sheffield, Nottingham and London.

The strategically important Procurement Manager role comes with a competitive salary and a benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties of the Procurement Manager role

Reporting to the Operations and Finance leadership teams, you will:

  • Execute procurement activities, including RFQs, purchase orders and invoice matching, for scheduled and unscheduled outages and day-to-day operational requirements, ensuring sustained plant operations across both sites.

  • Liaise with key internal stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering, Quality, Safety and Finance, to understand purchasing requirements, coordinate activities between sites, and support forecasting and budgeting.

  • Lead strategic, tactical and transactional procurement activities, developing sourcing strategies for CAPEX and OPEX, specialist engineering services, fuel supply, consumables and major outage requirements.

  • Source, evaluate and manage suppliers and contractors, conducting tenders, assessing bids, negotiating commercial terms and drafting contracts to achieve the best value, quality and delivery outcomes.

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitor performance against agreed KPIs, and develop strategies to achieve cost savings, improve service quality and strengthen supply chain resilience.

  • Analyse expenditure, purchasing trends and market data, producing reports on spend, savings and procurement performance while forecasting price movements and identifying value-for-money opportunities.

  • Ensure suppliers, contractors and procured materials meet all relevant technical specifications, quality standards, health and safety requirements, environmental regulations and ethical sourcing standards.

  • Support procurement transformation and continuous improvement by implementing effective policies, governance and processes, identifying opportunities to reduce costs, and keeping up to date with market trends, innovations, regulations and emerging technologies.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Proven experience in procurement or category management within the energy, heavy industrial or asset-intensive infrastructure sectors.

  • A track record of managing end-to-end tendering processes and negotiating high-value commercial contracts.

  • Experience contributing to procurement transformation, process improvement or supply chain insourcing initiatives.

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • A CIPS qualification, or currently working towards one, is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in power generation equipment procurement would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Personal skills

The Procurement Manager role would suit someone who is:

  • Commercially astute, with strong negotiation skills and a focus on delivering value beyond price alone.

  • Analytical and confident working with spend data, procurement metrics and financial information.

  • Experienced in strategic sourcing, category management and supplier relationship management.

  • A confident communicator who can act as a trusted commercial advisor to technical and operational stakeholders.

  • Proactive in identifying commercial risks, cost-saving opportunities and supply chain improvements.

  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a rapidly growing organisation where processes and frameworks are evolving.

  • Committed to sustainability, ethical sourcing and continuous improvement.

  • Focused on achieving measurable improvements in cost management, supplier performance and supply chain resilience.

Salary and benefits of the Procurement Manager role
  • Salary: Competitive, open to negotiation

  • Working arrangement: UK-wide remit with hybrid working.

  • Annual leave: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays.

  • Benefits: Competitive package, with additional benefits to be confirmed.

  • Career development: An opportunity to help shape and lead a procurement transformation within a growing renewable energy business.

  • Exposure: Regular interaction with experienced infrastructure developers, asset managers and senior operational stakeholders.

  • Working environment: A motivated team focused on sustainable energy, decarbonisation and long-term business growth.
