Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to shape supply chain strategy for the Anglian Water alliance. You will lead a procurement team, drive category strategies across construction services, materials and plant, and manage supplier risk to safeguard continuity and value.

You will report to the Head of Procurement, collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and champion digital analytics to strengthen procurement insights and decision-making.

Qualifications

• MCIPS/CMI qualification or equivalent.
• Significant procurement experience in a commercially challenging environment.
• Experience leading and developing teams, with multiple direct reports.
• Strong supplier management and development experience.
• Experience managing multiple stakeholder groups.
• Good working knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to handle challenging conversations.
• Sound commercial judgement in a complex environment.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing abilities.

Balfour Beatty play a key role as part of the Anglian Water’s one Alliance. The Alliance is a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and eight industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO. And together, we deliver around 40% of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.

As we progress through AMP8 – our most ambitious asset management period to date – we’re delivering nature-based and sustainable infrastructure, from wetlands to urban drainage schemes, setting new benchmarks for environmental performance.

We’re looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our team and play a key role in shaping our supply chain strategy and delivering outstanding commercial outcomes.

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you’ll lead and develop a team of procurement professionals while taking responsibility for supplier performance, category strategy, commercial risk and procurement excellence across our programme.

Working in a complex and fast-paced commercial environment, you’ll challenge traditional ways of working, identify opportunities to deliver differently and build collaborative relationships across our internal teams, Alliance Partners and supply chain.

What you’ll be doing

• Ensure procurement activity complies with framework agreements, governance requirements and responsible procurement standards.
• Build trusted supplier relationships and identify opportunities for supplier development.
• Collaborate with Solutions, Commercial, Operations, Construction and Project teams to ensure procurement is involved early in decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and commercial outcomes across the supply chain.
• Champion digital transformation, data and analytics to strengthen procurement insight and decision-making.
• Promote innovation and challenge established approaches to unlock additional value.
• Provide clear reporting, procurement insight and risk information to senior stakeholders.
• Champion an inclusive, safe and high-performing working environment.

Who we’re looking for

What you’ll bring:

• MCIPS and/or CMI qualification.
• Significant procurement experience gained within a commercially challenging environment.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing teams, ideally with responsibility for multiple direct reports.
• Strong supplier management and supplier development experience.
• Experience managing multiple internal and external stakeholder groups.
• Good working knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Strong negotiation skills and the confidence to manage challenging commercial conversations.
• Sound commercial judgement with the ability to make informed decisions in a complex environment.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills.
• A proactive approach, with the confidence to challenge existing ways of working and take ownership of outcomes.

It would also be great if you have:

• A degree in business, procurement or a related discipline.
