Job description

Procurement Manager

Location: Bolton
Working Pattern: Hybrid
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Opportunity

We're working with a highly established and rapidly growing organisation operating across a large, multi-site environment, and they're looking to appoint an experienced Procurement Manager to play a key role in their continued growth. This is an opportunity to join a business with a genuinely meaningful purpose, where the work you do has a direct impact on the services and environments they provide across their extensive network of sites. This isn't simply a transactional procurement position. You'll have the opportunity to lead and develop the procurement function, work closely with senior stakeholders and take ownership of strategic procurement activity across a broad range of categories. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you'll have genuine visibility and influence across the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

As Procurement Manager, you'll lead procurement activity across a diverse and evolving organisation, ensuring the business achieves the best possible combination of value, quality, compliance and commercial performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating procurement exercises across multiple categories
  • Managing and developing the procurement team
  • Developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
  • Leading procurement activity for new site openings
  • Sourcing equipment, energy, vehicles and operational resources
  • Managing supplier performance and ensuring agreed service levels are achieved
  • Conducting supplier due diligence covering compliance, sustainability and quality
  • Managing supplier databases and contract registers
  • Leading tenders, price reviews and supplier onboarding
  • Negotiating contracts and commercial terms to deliver value for money
  • Working closely with Finance, Property, IT and operational teams to forecast requirements
  • Taking responsibility for fleet procurement, including new vehicle orders, de-fleeting and vehicle reallocation
  • Producing procurement reports and using data to identify commercial opportunities
  • Managing supplier complaints and disputes
  • Ensuring procurement activity complies with internal policies and relevant regulations
  • Identifying and delivering opportunities for cost efficiencies and continuous improvement
What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced procurement professional who combines strong commercial judgement with excellent stakeholder management skills.

You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience in a procurement management role
  • Experience operating across a complex, multi-site organisation
  • Strong strategic sourcing and supplier management experience
  • A proven track record of negotiating contracts and delivering cost efficiencies
  • Experience managing tenders and procurement exercises from start to finish
  • Strong understanding of procurement governance, compliance and supplier due diligence
  • Excellent commercial and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and reporting capability
  • Experience managing, developing or mentoring a procurement team
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with procurement systems and relevant compliance frameworks
  • Experience within education, healthcare, care, facilities management, property, infrastructure, retail, hospitality or another complex multi-site environment would be particularly relevant.

A recognised procurement qualification such as MCIPS would be advantageous but is not essential where the candidate can demonstrate the required level of commercial experience.

Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional who wants more than a standard category or purchasing position. You'll be joining a large, well-established organisation with ambitious growth plans, where procurement has a genuine influence on the wider business.

  • A senior position with direct exposure to the Commercial Director
  • Responsibility for a broad and varied procurement portfolio
  • The opportunity to shape and develop the procurement function
  • A genuine leadership remit
  • Significant stakeholder exposure across the organisation
  • The chance to influence supplier strategy, commercial performance and cost efficiencies
  • A hybrid working environment
  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference within an organisation with a strong social purpose

If you're an experienced Procurement Manager looking for a role where you can take ownership, influence strategy and make a measurable commercial impact, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.
