Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a seasoned Purchasing Supervisor to oversee day-to-day purchasing operations and the performance of staff. The role ensures solicitations and contracts progress accurately and timely, while promoting continuous improvement and adherence to policies.

The successful candidate will communicate clearly, supervise Buyers, and apply analytical skills to purchasing decisions with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a business-related field.
• Four years of responsible purchasing or materials management experience.
• One year of administrative or lead supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises day-to-day work of Buyers and Senior Buyers, prioritizing workload and coaching.
• Guides staff on procurement methods, solicitation requirements, and contract administration.
• Coordinates solicitations from planning through award, including timelines and evaluations.
• Reviews documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance; escalates high-risk matters.
• Monitors contracts for expirations, renewals, and spending authority; ensures timely follow-up.
• Supports the annual purchasing plan with information on needs, expirations, and activity.
• Trains staff on best practices, systems, and policy compliance.
• Maintains awareness of workload and communicates significant issues to management.
