UBT in Stafford is seeking a hands-on Head of Procurement to lead a growing purchasing function for medical packaging and consumables in the healthcare sector. The role blends day-to-day buying with strategic transformation, focusing on margins, supplier partnerships and stock availability to support growth.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of building structure, improving processes and leading teams through change in a product-led or distribution business.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in procurement or purchasing within a product-led, trading or distribution business.
• Track record building structure, improving processes and preparing a department for growth.
• Experience leading teams through change and creating ownership culture.
• Strong commercial and negotiation skills with focus on costs, margins and stock.
• Data-driven approach to decision-making and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the procurement function, balancing day-to-day purchasing with longer-term improvements.
• Develop the team, strengthen supplier relationships, improve processes and optimize stock availability.
• Lead 60% hands-on work with 40% strategy, projects and continuous improvement.
• Negotiate supplier terms and costs; drive margin improvements.
• Strengthen supplier relationships and ensure continuity of supply.
• Use data and lead times to improve purchasing decisions and availability.
• Support day-to-day purchasing, sourcing, ordering and supplier enquiries while delivering projects.
